View Full Version : Workers allowed to aproach enemy city...unrealistic

I am laying siege to enemy cities. I gather my troops at three tiles away from the city. While I'm assembling my forces, I have some workers build roads up to the city so that I can make a quick attack and move away quickly to the next city. It is very unrealistic that the enemy city allows my workers create roads right up next to them.
When an enemy worker comes within range of my city, I get an alert, and then can bombard them (which I do).
The AI needs to bombard enemy workers within range if no higher priority units are within range.

are you currently at war with them or no? if you are in the middle of a war then they should be doing something about it, but if not then i can understand why they would ignore it.

Workers shouldn't be able to build improvements/roads inside another civ's borders.

Why not? After all, YOU pay the maintenance cost for them - not the enemy civ. They basically get a free road. I wouldn't complain.
Besides, all it takes is 1 scout to capture them.
However, workers should be one-shot killed by city bombardment, not 3 shots like it currently is.

Are you sure about this? I have not tested it but I'm pretty sure you pay for all roads inside your boarders regardless of who built them or when...

That's not true. You pay inside your own borders is the general rule. Imagine if you conquered almost all the land of a Civ so it only has one city left. Now, would it seem reasonable that they would continue to pay maintenance for the roads you absorbed into your borders? Because that's basically the same thing.
But in neutral territory, the builder pays.

It's still strange though. They should make it a bit more logically consistent--taking 3 shots to kill a lowly worker is really unrealistic (same for atomic bombs needing 2 hits to smash barbarian galleys).

Tru fax.
And yes, any roads within your territory you must pay for. If you can sneak into enemy land and construct roads they'll have to pay for them and they won't destroy them, either.
