1/3 of a standard size map discovered = horrible lag

This game is horribly unoptimized, I've barely uncovered a third of a standard sized map and every turn takes 30+ seconds to finish, it doesn't matter what graphics settings I use, my computer is way past the recommended requirements on the box.

Is this game getting any patches to fix this terrible lag?
