I consider myself a Civ Vet, Ive played them all since 2 and played them hours on hours

My biggest issue is really just with the overall AI of the game, and Im hoping im just missing something. I realize there have been changes, and you cant play this like you could Civ 4. You have to prioritize...pick and choose what you want to build. However the AI for automated workers, and for NPC countries is staggeringly bad.

The NPC countries are so aggressive, they will attack and try to conquer at the slightest hint of an advantage. They then push through whatever limited resistence the other NPCs have because their AI is also bad, and then one country just eats up all the other countries. However this then fails because the AI is bad and full of puppets and can no longer maintain its empire so it razes all the cities to the ground. Its just silly and kind of ruins the feel of a real world with real countries.

Worker automation is incredibly clumsy, unless there is some setting im missing. I have no desire to micromanage every single worker and every single square, Civ 4 showed that that was no longer neccessary. However my workers will continue to build farms when I want my cities to stop growing so I wont run my happiness into the ground. Is there a way to control them or give them different priorities?

I enjoy the challenge of juggling everything within my Civ...but I feel like im being punished for succeeding. If your city grows and thrives through your decisions, it should HELP you not make things more difficult for you.

There are a lot of threads about the numerous AI shortcomings. Hopefully the devs are aware of the issues, and not treating this all as, "functioning as designed." Time (and patches) will tell.

Im certain ,the AI is the biggest drawback. I have seen a slight glimpse of 4 AI units try to capture a defenseless AI city. The city at almost taken by the one archer solely ,the infantries even just one could just rush for the rest but wouldnt and were cannonfodder running back and forth, so it was a race who could build up their HP the fastest lol.

So the managment of the AI, i see the AI having minus amounts of income all the time, dont know about that.
But feedback on the AI would be enourmously helpful. The ultimate but cheap feedback were only spies, but im more talking about trading / relation / grand strategic plan feedback. What do they need ,what do they want or not want. (Like only the advisor tells how one AI is missing resources). How they relate to the player besides being just hostile. etc

I WISH my workers built farms!! What happens is they come along, destroy all my cities farms and build trade posts instead, thus causing everyone in the city to slowly starve to death!! It's ridiculous. Was this game even beta tested?

CIV 5 has the worst AI of almost any civ game and the worst workers ever.

since the latest patch in the game options there is the option "automated workers dont replace improvements"...u should try that maybe.
i dont use automated workers anyway though, cause they always suck...civ5 or 4 doesnt matter:D
so my best advice is to always use them manually.

As mentioned by others there's an option to have them leave old improvements now, and you can always tell a city to avoid growth.
