I played my last Civ IV game just over a week ago. I'm already missing Leonard Nimoy's narration and quoting.

Both voices sound old and scratchy to me. Pretty much the same.

I agree, Leonard Nimoy had something about him that just made enjoy every quote i heard... no matter how many times i've heard it.

Leonard sounded more scholarly, while the new guy sounds dramatic. It sounds like the old guy in the opening cinematic. I hope it will be easier to get the new guy back for expansions. Hearing the young guy in the Civ4 expansions really shocked me out of my Civ Reverie.

The replacement voice for the last expansion of Civ IV was Sid.
I miss Leonard Nimoy as well but am glad they went with a professional voice actor rather than someone who's skills lay else where.

I recognized his voice immediately as General Trimble from the 1993 Gettyburg. :)

It would have been beautiful if they had picked up Bill Shatner. Then tell him to give it the old Kirk over-acting treatment.

I personally couldn't stand Nimoy in Civ IV. Seriously, his presence felt so out of place, and just about every quote was poorly read. I really like the voice actor in Civ V though.

I feel the opposite. I have never heard of the Civ 5 narrator/voice man (I'm English, I gather he is well known in America), but from what I've heard so far I'm not overly impressed. He is alright most of the time, but he has got to an age where his voice is going (I assume it wasn't always like that, or is he a sixty cigarettes a day man?) and it is too hoarse for my taste. Only Clint Eastwood would have been worse in this regard! Also, I've noticed rare bits where he simply runs through the text, ignoring commas and not changing tone where appropriate. I preferred Nimoy.

I also feel the new guys places emphases in odd places at times. I loved Leonard in Civ IV, and it took me a while to find out that it was him. It's not like the new guy is bad, though.

Oh come now, I rather enjoyed William Morgan Sheppard's performance here. But, then again, I have always been a fan of his.
Meerletalis,
You have to include the whole quote from Gettysburg.
Maj. Gen. Isaac R. Trimble: Yes, sir. Sir... I said to him, General Ewell, these words. I said to him, "Sir, give me one division and I will take that hill." And he said nothing. He just stood there, he stared at me. I said, "General Ewell, give me one brigade and I will take that hill." I was becoming disturbed, sir. And General Ewell put his arms behind him and blinked. So I said, General, give me one *regiment* and I will take that hill." And he said *nothing*! He just stood there! I threw down my sword, down on the ground in front of him!
[he stops and regains his composure]
Maj. Gen. Isaac R. Trimble: We... we could've done it, sir. A blind man should've seen it. Now they're working up there. You can hear the axes of the Federal troops. And so in the morning... many a good boy will die... taking that hill.
I just loved the "I was becoming disturbed, sir."

They should've hired Patrick Stewart for Civ 5 narration.

I miss Nimoy's voice too. The new guy is not so bad though.
Nimoy's voice is not so hot these days. I think he has received false teeth since Civ4.

I think we can all agree that Morgan Freeman would have been the best voice over anyone :D

I liked a lot of Civ IV's quotes better, in terms of which voice both are fine (although I wish Civ V quotes would keep going when I close the window, I don't want to keep it open to listen to it lol).

I've been watching "Through the Wormhole" on the Science Channel that Morgan Freeman hosts. With the quality of his voice and a little Mississippi twang, I agree, he would have also been a good choice. Besides, he's played God in how many movies now?

I concur. He has a stoic yet empathic and learned voice which suited the game nicely. I to never grew tired of his monologues in game.
