First of all I would like to say that Civ 5 is looking amazing and im really looking forward to playing it. And im sorry if someone already made a post about this.

So... Civ 4, excellent game, excellent narrator for the job, Leonard Nimoy was a perfect choice. A few months ago when I was looking at Civ5 screenshots, I wondered whos voice would fit perfectly into the beautiful game you have created, so I did some googling and seen murmors of Patrick Stewart. I was over the moon, this was one of the biggest selling points for me, It would have added 10 times the quality to the game.

So last night at 9pm I made a cup of tea and sat patiently watching the 2 hour walkthrough you had on ustream, listening for the dulcit english tones of Patrick Stewart. I heard voices, It wasnt clear who it was, some people shouted saying "It must just be the advisors speaking!", Animal Husbandry was almost done! this is the moment ive been waiting for!.......................

"Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn."

Im sorry WHAT? Morgan Sheppard? You cant be serious? Not saying he cant act well but hes a shadow compared to Leonard Nimoy and Patrick Stewart, Instead of giving us something thrilling and exciting to listen to, we now get a guy well past his prime, grumbling and croaking into our ears.

Ill be playing Civ 5 MUTE, thank you

Morgan Sheppard's an excellent actor!

Although, what is this thread about?

You must be joking. The narrator certainly isn't Morgan Freeman, but I didn't find listening to his voice to be an unpleasant experience. It's not like screech from Saved By the Bell or Gilbert Godfrey is doing the narrating. I'd definitely mute the game for those two.

Morgan Sheppard has been doing voice work and acting for decades. I would rather have Nimoy but this man is well qualified to do the job.

After Nimoy, they were never going to get another actor who appealed to gamers like he did. Patrick Stewart perhaps but maybe they couldn't get him? Just because we want him doesn't mean he wants us.

The actor they've got sounds great imo, it's a very powerfull voice. That said, even if you don't think he's great you can't possibly think he's BAD. And if he's not bad, there's no reason to play the game on mute.

Really, what's the point of this thread? It's done. He's the voice actor. The game launches in a week.

This is a real dick thread and I feel embarrassed for anyone who has had to read it. I'll now put Gorbachoph on mute.

I would like to see what you would say if you lost any chance for work because of that same saying.

'you WAS good, but now you are past your prime' you would be miffed, seriously miffed.

I personally think his voice goes well with this game, like Spock did with Civ IV

Morgan Freeman's greatest work:

I vote for Wallace Shawn as narrator! :D

LOL, O my. I know who I want to narrate "Civilization 6, Iago's Flock!"

Ken Burns is the best possible person for narrating a historically based game. He's the voice for many of the PBS documentaries such as the Civil War.

I told them over a year ago to get Ken Burns, but they didn't listen to me.

First of all, I agree that I will miss Leonard Nimoy. Second of all, I will agree that Patrick Stewart would be awesome. Thirdly, I will disagree that Morgan Sheppard necessitates muting the game's audio. Morgan Sheppard sounds fine. He's not Nimoy or Stewart, but he does have a Star Trek background, so I will accept him as Civ V's new narrator!

I also want to point out that the narrator could not have been a "selling point" unless 2K, Firaxis was promoting it. You should never consider rumor to be a "selling point". That will dissapoint you EVERY time LoL. Also, they announced Morgan Sheppard on Civ V's official site like a month ago.

Plus, it could be worse. They could have gotten that guy who did the tech quotes from Beyond the Sword expansion...

I think Brian Blessed should have been the narrator:D

Hahaha, even if you muted it, he would still deafen you!!! I liked the voices in SMAC, where the voices were those of the characters in the game - I know you couldn't really do that in civ, but maybe get a whole range of actors in, each doing a few to represent the person who really made the quote! The actor they got is pretty good though

What does his acting career have to do weither his voice is good in the game or not? Are you going to object to the voices of the leaders as well?

If I had the chance to choose I'd probably have chosen Stephen Fry or William Shatner. Or Robin Williams and he'd do all the voicework :D

I just started listening to the replay of yesterday's gameplay video, and he does sound a little too gruff and hoarse for my liking. I can see why the OP would find it grating to listen to I'm afraid.

I'm going to support the OP on this one. As petty as it sounds, Morgan Sheppard's wispy growling and grumbling is painful to listen to. It sounds pretentious, like he's begging to be seen as profound while Leonard Nimoy seemed perfectly natural, as if he were just talking to you, yet without his even trying, the entire wisdom of humanity was being given to you as a gift.

And I'm going to call both the OP and you insane. He's great. Sounds great.

He's alright, But I think I've been spoiled by Leonard Nimoy's voice in Civ IV.

Seriously, he would quote sputnik and I still took him seriously

I so miss Leonard Nimoy's voice from civ 4 that puts an awesome extra star on any game that uses his voice.

I think they're both good, but I do prefer the more light-hearted approach. The difference is noticeable in both the delivery and in the choice of quotes.

Guess I'm not the only one getting a bit tired of his voice. Sometimes, he sounds really good, but other times, not so. It's too whispey and too low.

Zomg I had to read the OP and forgot to realize this was from a lack of Patrick Steward voice... god that would be a hard competition to Nimoy.

I want Jessica Alba or Anna Kournikova to do the voice of Civ 6.

I thought this was an improvement. I thought Lenord Nemoy was a bit disapointing in Civ IV. He was dry and dull. Not sure what I was expecting from him, but this is one thing I like from Civ V over Civ IV.
