This is one game that i had no problem forgetting about, i played duke on the ps1 when it came out and it was shallow and stupid and i never finished it, if you really wanted
something from past to revive 2K you should have looked into buying the rights of
colony wars.:(

He (she?) played PS1 Duke, missing the greatness of Duke Nukem 3D.

Well it is on Xbox Live Arcade so go get it. If anyone is thinking of trying to dig it up for the PC may I recommend the Atomic Edition.

I still play it. Been playing Manhatten Project lately as well.
There is also a ton of great mods and stuff, like EDuke.
My personal favorite is the High Resolution Pack. Not all Duke fans like the way it modernizes the controls, but I love it.

Actually, there is a PS1 version of Duke Nukem 3D. It's exact copy of DN3D for PC.

gearbox and 2k together is a bad ocmbination imo. Duke nukem 3d was a great game for its time, im guessing the majority of people here iddnt paly it on first release. Serious sam and duke3d came out in totally different times.
First off, gearbox havent made a good game since hl1 opposing force. 2K games destroyed the xcom license and now they will likely destroy the duke license after this game has been released. By "reimagining" the franchise and turinng it into a strategy game were you control a squad of dukes and take out the aliens in a sort of turn based tactical game, with base building etc.
please 2k just odnt give tihs licence to 2k marin.

What about Borderlands? I don't know how many times I've completed it on my PS3, but it's at least 4 or 5. I've done it solo and in co-op. I'm half-way considering getting a PC version of it so I can play it with keyboard and mouse on my new laptop.

The XCOM games started going downhill after Microprose was bought out. This was well before 2K ever got into the picture.
Gearbox have managed to pick up a good number of old 3D Realms staff, including many of the key developers. George Broussard is also still in the picture. With these influences the game will keep the same feel it always had.

Gearbox are simply taking the game from 3D Realms and finishing what was started. Future games will remain FPS games, because Duke is the only character that really matters.
Even if the game does change for the worse, it can't do much more damage than 3D Realms did during the last 13 years.

I dunno, I'm a big fan of 3DRealms and their strategy, and I wish we could go back to the philosophies of the days of the Gathering of Developers.
Duke isn't the only game that came after many years, it just holds the record in continual development and redevelopment and taking so many years. They kept it alive mostly by their own means, and their own will, and their own beliefs. Ask a Star Trek fan if big corporate marketing monkees should be given the power to churn out media for the sake of making money and producing as much as possible... I give you the example because the overwhelming majority will kick and scream about raping the franchise and killing the Star Trek name. Is there a higher standard that outweighs productivity norms?
Ask any artist how long "great" art takes. It might be spontaneous, It might take a very long time.

The fact that after being laid off from 3DR that some developers actually continued working on the game in their own homes shows how dedicated they were and are to making sure DNF is released, finally they get to see their game put on shelves.
