View Full Version : Lag Question

For the past week or so, I have been lagging quite badly. It's not the epic lag you get when you end up going half way across the map, it's the lag which shakes your screen left to right slightly. As a head shotter it's really starting to do my head in. It doesn't do it all the time it does it now and again, but when it happens during aiming for the head and it misses I get frustrated.
I'm connected via cable into a wireless router which then connects to the modem. The Internet seems okay but Bioshock is suffering.
So, is anyone else getting this constantly or would you suggest a new router?

It's all in your head. Your aim isn't as good as you think it is.

Yeah yeah, My aims fine thanks and it doesn't effect my score too much. It happens when I jump and walk but it's sporadic.

You might have a corrupted wire within the connection, that's why I lagged a lot a while back. Other than that I don't know what to tell you sorry bro.

This is the exactly the same type of lag I have! It's not so bad to the point where it makes me lose games, but when I get it in the middle of lining up a shot it's really frustrating.

Doubt its the router. More likely the hosts you have been unlucky enough to play against.
If it is an every game kind of thing...might be your service provider doing funnies for the last week or so. Might also be an infected PC within your home, that is sucking up bandwidth. Could also be someone within our home streaming vids or other high bandwith items at the same time you are playing. Could also be a bad cable, as someone observed.

do you get ur internet from the your phone or cable. Because one thing that might speed up your connection is just going from the modem to your xbox, instead of from your modem to the router to your xbox the only downfall would be that you can't use your computer at the same time as you're using your xbox. Thats what i do because my computer can't handle a router.
I have pretty good connection this way. I don't know what else to say

I think it has more to do with who you might be playing with as I get this sporadic type lag and it only happens when I walk. If i stand still to hack or kill it can actually work to my advantage. I can also hack a turret or do research as the applet doesn't always pop up when I am next to the target but appears later after I walk away and if I haven't let go of X since standing next to whatever then it lets me do it at a distance.
I run a wired connection through fios in my DMZ zone and usually everything rocks but this does happen time to time. Also some player invites simply refuse to connect and these tend to come from people in distant countries and the invites are in a different language. Not all foreign invites just some.
I also eliminated bitorrent as a culprit and know how to monitor my network and as others have already posted lag can come from whoever is hosting connection's.

I think its just the way Multiplayer is set up . . .the collision detection is crap in that game. I hit people in the head - Nothing. It's just a very odd game that needs a lot of work before people can actually have fun in it.

I will try this thanks, I have 20mb net and never really had a problem with lag it's only been the last 2 weeks.

I think you maybe right, I played three games yesterday on my own and not in a party and it ran fine. When I played later on with some friends It was business as usual - the walking lag.
It doesn't effect my performance too much but when it happens when aiming I can be caught out and miss the target by the screen shaking left to right.
