J did it , but problem with brake pedal isn't solved . Lightly push pedal acceleration and break pedal pushing too, it is not pressing. Mayby my wheel isn't good work with this emulator ?!

What wheel is it? Sounds like the pedals are combined on the same axis.

That is what I was thinking. Best bet is to contact the MFG and see if they will/do support W7.

Download new version of Emulator (2.0.2.90) from:
http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list
I have fixed "Record" feature when wheel reports gas and brake pedals as single Slider. Extract x360ce.exe over the old version and follow these steps:
1) Open Xbox 360 Controller Emulator Application
2) Set LEFT "Trigger" value to "HSlider 1" (Sliders -> Half -> HSlider 1)
3) Set RIGHT "Trigger" value to "IHSlider 1" (Sliders -> Inverted Half -> IHSlider 1)
4) Test pedals.
P.S.: I don't have joystick so I can't test controllers with more than 1 slider.
This can be added to FAQ:
Gas and brake pedals are combined. How can I separate them?
Solution 1: If you have Logitech wheel:
1) Open "Logitech Profiler" Tool
2) From menu open: Device -> Game Controllers...
3) Select your controller and click [Properties] button
4) Select [Test] tab and click [Settings] button
5) Check "[x] Combined (single axis - used for most games)" option.
6) Click [Close], [OK], [OK] buttons.
Solution 2: If you can't separate pedals:
1) Open Xbox 360 controller Emulator
2) Set LEFT "Trigger" value to "HSlider 1" (Sliders -> Half -> HSlider 1)
3) Set RIGHT "Trigger" value to "IHSlider 1" (Sliders -> Inverted Half -> IHSlider 1)
4) Test pedals.

Can you test your pedals with tool provided by wheel manufacturer in order to make sure that they work with it?
You can also try to set Sliders and Axis manually on one of the triggers:
1) Set Trigger drop down list value to "SliderN" or "AxisN" where N = from 1 to 8
2) wait for "bing!" sound which means XInput reloaded
3) Press your pedals and watch for green bubble on trigger image
4) If there is no green bubble then do (N + 1) and repeat from step 1 till you find working Slider or Axis.

Maybe you could send your x360ce.ini file ([PAD1] section) to evaldas@jocys.com if it works and you are happy with your results? I can include your settings it into the program Presets list so other people who have same wheel as you could benefit from your work. :)

I have tested game without emulator with genuine Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller and it behaves in the same way - you can't look around (camera controls are locked) when trigger buttons are down. I guess its not a bug, its a "game feature" :).

Really? I could have sworn i was able to do this before, but I can't be sure. Thanks for looking into it.
Also a few friends have told me that their FPS drop around 10 while using the emulator. Does that sound right to you?
Thanks.

It depends on how far you press the trigger or pedal. If you press like 20% then you still can control camera with the mouse, but at max you loose control, so you are partly right.
Also a few friends have told me that their FPS drop around 10 while using the emulator. Does that sound right to you?
Thanks.
I will try to test it tomorrow (Logging options must be disabled and x360ce Application must be closed).

Did Mafia II benchmark test on nVidia GTX 275, 1920x1200x60, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz:
Microsoft XInput (FPS): 23.5, 24.4
TocaEdit XINput (FPS): 21.7, 22.3
So there could be some loss in FPS. There should be less FPS loss if GPU is a bottleneck and CPU have plenty of extra power. But if CPU is already stretched on resource then loss in FPS could be bigger. Virus is an expert amongst us here who is working on x360ce lib optimizations so with time it will get better.

Ok. Personally, i am getting good frames with it. But if someone is running Phyx on the CPU as well has using the EMU, that could be the issue perhaps. Thanks.

Thanks to everybody involved I've finally got my cheap 3 in 1 thrustmaster steering wheel working with this game, it's a real pleasure not jerking through bends but rather a nice smooth transition, thank you all!

Microsoft XInput is threaded, do some things asynchronously, x360ce for now, not. I do not think that threading is same way as in original xinput is possible in x360ce.
WriteLog function is slow as hell, so do not set Log=1 if not needed.

Thanks for the updated EMU, using DFP with 100% antideadzone and it is nearly all gone.
Lot easier to steer and control cars now, had a hoot last night in the rain, drifting and powersliding around the corners.

Hi guys!
I have a Momo racing wheel and everything is working perfect using a new version of emulator (x360ce.App-2.0.2.90.zip).
At first the dead zone was horrible, but after I changed the values manually in the Advanced tab of the emulator to:
Left Thumb X AntiDeadZone - 8600
Left Thumb Y AntiDeadZone - 8600
Right Thumb X AntiDeadZone - 9500
Right Thumb Y AntiDeadZone - 9500
That fixed it...
Now there is only one problem left. When driving, I press the brake pedal (not even all the way) and I loose all steering (the car just goes strait). I don't know is the game set up that way to lock the wheels when you push the brakes but I doubt it because when I played it on the keyboard I could make a turn while holding down the brake button...
Does anyone have a solution?
P.S. Thanks for all the work you guys did with the steering wheel support!:)

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel on a Windows XP (32bit) machine and using x360ce.App-2.0.2.89. But the wheel doesn't work. Any suggestions of adjusting axes or something? Or do I have to set something up in the game itself?
Does x360ce application detects your wheel or problem is just with the game?
If wheel doesn't work inn the game only then: It is required to set "Device Type" on [Advanced] Tab to "GamePad", NOT steering wheel, even if you're using a steering wheel.
If wheel keys doesn't work in application then it means that at this moment there is no preset for your wheel and you need to configure it yourself.:
1. Download latest version of emulator from http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list
2. Open downloaded zip and extract x360ce.exe file into c:\program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\mafia ii\pc
3. Run x360ce.exe Application.
4. Select "Clear" preset (drop down list on the bottom left).
5. Click [Load] button.
6. Turn wheel into centred position.
6. Click on drop down of every button and use "* Record" feature to map wheel buttons to virtual controller on the screen.
7. Click [Save] button when you are happy with results.
8. Close x360ce.exe application and start Mafia II game.
Note: Your wheel axis must be mapped to "LEFT Stick Axis X" drop down (on [General] tab).
If you succeed, then send your preset (x360ce.ini file) to this email: evaldas@jocys.com. I will include this preset into next version of emulator so other people won't need to struggle with configuration.

Try to test it on x360ce.exe Application. Press brake and turn your wheel. If wheel doesn't turn then Brake is pressed then there is something wrong wit Mapping. Try to reload Preset.
There is also bug in the game (tested without emulator with genuine Xbox controller). Mouse stops responding when Accelerate or Brake triggers are pressed more than 30-50% so you can't use mouse to pan camera (look to the left or right). I think this is a bug since you can pan camera with right-thumb of Xbox 360 controller.

Does image on [General] tab shows green bubbles when you press buttons or green cross on thumb image moves when you turn wheels?

I downloaded the x360ce but it doesn't work with my Logitech G25. I use the G27 preset, since there is none for the G25.
The x360 controller is greyed out, like my wheel isn't connected but it is. It shows a tab of G25 that has changing numbers when I turn the wheel.
Doesn't anybody have his setup that I can download or use?

If answer is "Yes" then check that emulator is in correct folder:

This folder must contain "Mafia2.exe" executable.

You should read the tutorial.
Did you've tried the deadzone remove solution listed in the FAQ?
• How to remove dead zone from wheel?
1) Run x360ce.exe
2) Select tab with your Wheel Controller.
3) Open [Advanced] tab page
4) Select "Enabled (XInput)" from "AntiDeadZone" drop down
5) Clik [Save] button.
6) Close x360ce Application, run Mafia II game.

If you are running Logitech profiler then it could apply some specific settings for the game. You can close Logitech Profiler and test game without it or check all settings in Logitech Profiler: remove key mappings, check for dead-zone settings.

Try to set anti-deadzone to Enabled (XInput, 100%)"
If you still have dead-zone then increase Left Thumb X AntiDeadZone (numeric text box) value manually.
You need to restart game in order for new setting to work.

Hey guys just wanted your input on using the emulator described here with a flightstick-style joystick vs. a wheel.
I had to use Xpadder for GTA4, and it worked reasonably well (made left-right register as A-D keys). Responsiveness wasn't 100% what I could have wished, though.
Do you think the response will be better with the 360 emulator than with Xpadder?
In general, do you think I should I go to the trouble of downloading/setting up this other emulator or will Xpadder work well enough for steering with a joystick?

Hey guys just wanted your input on using the emulator described here with a flightstick-style joystick vs. a wheel.
I had to use Xpadder for GTA4, and it worked reasonably well (made left-right register as A-D keys). Responsiveness wasn't 100% what I could have wished, though.
Do you think the response will be better with the 360 emulator than with Xpadder?
In general, do you think I should I go to the trouble of downloading/setting up this other emulator or will Xpadder work well enough for steering with a joystick?
LOL it took you longer to type the above out then it would to download and have your wheel working in the game.
The wheel works fine in game with emulator.

I tried Xpadder before the x360EMU, and just couldn't get it to work with my g27. I don't remember if it CTD or didnt' work with x64, but it didn't work for me if that is any help. Running w7 pro.

If you map keyboard keys to axis then it means that driving will be "jerky" - since everything will be Full ON/OFF.
X360CE emulator allows you to turn wheel, accelerate and brake gradually (wheel - 65535 steps, pedals - 255 steps). This is the biggest quality difference between X360CE emulator and programs which maps keys to axis.
Remember that in Mafia II, it is required to set "Device Type" on [Advanced] Tab to "GamePad" (doesn't matter what controller type it is in reality) in order for game accept it.

This is exactly what I was looking for - trying to avoid the binary nature of Xpadder's input - thank you very much evaldas. :)
Now if I could only get the game to stop crashing in an ugly way every 30 mins. (forcing a hard reboot using the power On/Off switch) we'd be good to go. :(

Well the new emulator/app is working great... to control the car that is, because now I am facing another problem.
I have a Logitech G27 wheel, which is working great now... but when I press TAB to check out the map, and possibly mark a destination while driving or walking, there is no mouse cursor movent but the wheel to the left or right and gas pedal to zoom in and brake pedal to zoom out.
LOL, NO!!! Well I have tried everything and I can't work around this problem. I updated the emulator on top of the old one, if this is the problem then I need to know which files to delete.
Any help would be apreciated.

Does game crashing without emulator? If answer is "yes", then this 30 min looks like game bug, overheating or memory leak issue. If game crashes with emulator only then on you can try to turn Force Feedback OFF and make sure that Anti-DeadZone is 80% or less (people reported that game is more stable with these settings).

I've only had the game running with Xpadder so far, no 360 emulator.
And only had it running once before installing Xpadder, and then only long enough to realize that I had to use it or steer with the keyboard, so not sure if the crashes are related to Xpadder or not. I doubt it.
The crashes are seemingly random - happen at a variety of times.
If it was a "polite" clean crash sending me back out to Windows I wouldn't have a problem - new games are new, and these days first-purchasers are Beta Testers by default.
But this is a hard lock where screen goes black but I can hear sound effects in background. Ctrl-Alt-Del opens Task Mgr in background (I can hear it) but can't see it to close Mafia II, Alt-Tab minimizes Mafia II but I still can't see Windows, just a black screen with no mouse.
So I have to hard-boot my PC - which I HATE doing.
So I'll just shelve this until you persistant souls do 2K's beta-testing, I'll pick it back up in a month when they've got all the bugs ironed out.
C'est la vie, and par for the course these days, I'm afraid. :(

May be messed up Registry, Dr Insane had similar issue, mentioned here
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82523&page=4
He used CCleaner to clean registry and redownloaded the EMU, no more crashes using pedals.
Also with the latest EMU as mouse does not work on map and it moves about, keep wheel centered as much as possible and use cursor keys to move map up and down.

I guess you can also reduce Anti-DeadZone setting, so wheel will be centered easier.

Can anybody tell me the slider or axis of the gas and brake pedal? I can't seem to find it for my Sidewinder Precision Steering Wheel. The steering works with the HSlider1 and IHSlider1 on the "Trigger" button. What button on the x360ce.App is used for gas and brake? And what Slider or Axis should I use?

The xbox controller uses rtrigger and ltrigger for gas and brake. Use the 'record' to set the axis to those buttons and you don't have to know what axis they are.

I want to have a quick read up on the method(s) used to implement 'unsupported' controllers, but it does seem that there are already a few people on here that know what they are talking about when it comes to this topic.
If the instructions on Page 1 do not allow you to use the device, I would suggest looking for a forum or blog that goes in to further detail for such a specific problem - or maybe some of the good people on here can crack it.

Hello,
I have a Logitech Driving Force GT and running Windows 7 64.
Cause i dislike the way the keyboard-steering behaves i downloaded the latest x360ce App version and set everything the way it was told on start topic.
Ingame:
Steering works, Gas/ Brake works. But as soon as i start driving out to the road, 5 meters on the backyard (Chapter 4 11. Feb), the game crashes. If i "uninstall" the emu the game starts working normals again.
Any Solution to this? Even a reason?
EDIT:
Found the Reason... NEVER NEVER activate FF in the Emu WHEN YOU HAVE A LOGITECH FULL FF WHEEL :D cause FF and Vibration is not the same, and seams to crash the game. Maybe because it trys to vibrate the Wheel X-)

Left steering = L analog stick (on xbox controller)i believe if your are doing it manually.
This is the line that refers to it just FYI: (in the INI file)
Left Analog X=1 #axis index; use - to invert; precede with 's' for a slider eg; s-1; 7 to disable
Hit record then move your device (wheel) left and it should capture it.

Maybe it is just my head getting confused, but when I played the original story of the main game I had to launch the emulator every time that I wanted to use the wheel while playing, but when I have been playing Jimmy's Vendetta I forgot to do so but it still worked in the game, so while playing Jimmy's Vendetta I have not launced it prior to playing the game.

Well thats horrible, I mean how much work can it be, personally I do not know so there could be reasons for it in the sense that it is complicated, but as I have said before it is one way to improve the game quite a lot technically so I am very disappointed.
When they put so much effort into the cars, the physics and there is so much driving in the game, and when Martin goes on about how much he likes the driving in the game in his reaply thread then something is not right.
I start to think that Mafia II has become some kind of "burden" for the developers, though while being happy that they have released it in the end, since it didn`t turn out the way they wanted it too, they want to move on to something different as soon as possible.

Hello guys, I have several problems and hope somebody can help me solve them. First of all, I run Genius 8-Button USB Wheel on Windows 7. It needs calibration though I can't seem to find it in W7 - I used to play Mafia one on XP with it and had no problems. So my first problem is I need to make some offset, since that xBox emulator thingie says I have like -10000 in Axis 1 when my wheel is in center. My second question is the possibility of using wheel only on cars and play on keyboard + mouse when on foot. I started the game after that tutorial in the first post and couldn't control my character with keyboard and mouse. Would be very thankful for any help on these.

As long as the drivers are in W7 it should work in Mafia 2. Yes the whill will work with cars and mouse and keys for shooting. Type 'controller' in the w7 start bar to get to the wheel cfg. Make sure its set to separate if you have pedals. When you use the x360 emu make sure it is set to gamepad and not wheel cause it wont work at all like that.

Well it seems that we are not going to get official support for wheels in this game, but I wonder WHY NOT, and I do not mean that in a screaming whining fashion, but quite simply even if they say, which they have according to Liz that there will be none, then tell us the REASON, and do not leave us with a few...."oh we got other things to do" kind of answers, but we want to know how difficult it is and how much time it would have taken to implement it even if we do not get it.
And Martin in answering the question about wheel support in his Q&A thread said something about "lesson learned", I mean ok I understand what he means due to the interest in getting wheel support in the game, but more important they would have learnt that lesson ALREADY by seeing how many that liked the wheel support for the first game.
Its really sad that I will probably always hold the lack of wheel support against this game as a huge drawback, maybe even the biggest as I like the game overall and I am not so critical towards it as many others on this forum.

Thanks a lot for the help, at least I calibrated my wheel with that 'controller' suggestion. But Mafia 2 still won't react on the wheel. You said "As long as the drivers are in W7 it should work in Mafia 2" did you mean I don't have to use x360 emul? If so, what should I do? When I run that emul - I can't switch gears. I get in car and press accelerate pedal on my wheel, cycles increase but the car won't move. And when I'm on foot I always aim and shoot. I guess I need to do that pedals separation thing to get rid of it?

Hello Chalkman!I have read so many things ,it was more problem with it,but at least i've succeed to install my Momo wheel in XP and the game detected it succesfully. It was a big problem with deadzone, but i've resolved it with a software.ONE more problem remains, that's why i'm asking for your help, the game is stop working everytime.IF i push the throttle in the street,he is getting the gun and shooting with it 1 times ,and then the game stops working, and quits. It's possible that the pads are colliding with Wheel.I hope you can resolve my problem.
Your Sincerely : Gábor (hungary)

Yep you need to set your pedals/wheel mod to "separate" and turn of FF. That should take care of that issue. BTW i wouldn't try to run more than one controller in with the EMU, or even have two plugged in. Let me know how that works.

I don't understand?
The other thing you could try is set the IN GAME controller settings to Controller CFG #1 ( the xbox controller illustration in the game)

More than 57,000 views on this subject so far.Do the devs still think there is not enough interest in this matter to warrant a fix?.

Will you give us wheel support if views reach 60,000?.surely that shows enough people are interested in it?.Come on do the right thing. This game would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better for it.christmas is coming you know lol.
My favorite part of Mafia I, besides the story line, was driving around the town in Free Mode using my joy stick. I've been using a joy stick for years with driving games like Need for Speed, Test Drive Unlimited, Mafia 1 and love it. The stick axis controls acceleration and braking and steering. I was amazed in Mafia II to find that there is no Free Mode, but worse yet I can't use my simple USB Thrustmaster T1600 stick, trying to use keyboard keys to control driving is almost impossible.
I did a search and didn't see any topics on using a joystick in Mafia II and the above hack looks way to complicated and doesn't look like it has any drop in ini files for joystick use. Why can't 2k come out with a patch to support wheels and joysticks?
OK, I discovered a newer X-Box360 program and dll that automatically recognizes the T16000M joystick and shows it in the test program automatically. It uses a newer xinput1_3.dll file and the test program is x360cd.exe v2.0.2.94 the ini file is x360ce.ini
I now have steering on x axis of the stick and acceleration/breaking on the y axis.. what a difference driving in Mafia II and I can use my left hand on the mouse to swing my view around to any angle while driveing.. this is great!!!
One huge problem though: I have lost control of the out of car control. The view stays just to the right side of the character's head and neither the run/walk (caps key) or the sprint (shift key) work any more, he is stuck in walk mode only and can not look around easily and the view is way to close up to the character to see what one is doing. The stick is some how interferring with the keyboard controls. I've reset the keyboard in game with no effect. The stick won't control the character at all, but will move him sporatically in the the x axis movement. I had this same problem with the earlier x-box360 control set, but with that set I could only get the x axis of the stick to conrol the steering, as I mentioned.
I know the main concern here is about getting wheels to work, but surly some of you can help to get a stick to work? There are plenty of people who use a stick in raceing games and they are very effective when set up right. I used to have a MOMO wheel and I found that I could drive just as well with a stick with out all the hassles of setting up the wheel and peddals, etc. each time I wanted to play, though the wheel was a lot of fun.

There is no wheel support Mohammad, so it won't work unless you use the emulator. Read thru this thread starting page one and see if it will work with your wheel.

Finally LOL. Great! You know this is a great ref thread to get wheel support in any game. So far i've used the same technique in "The Saboteur" and James Bond Bloodstone.

For anyone who still has a bit of an deadzone while using 100% Anti-Deadzone with mafia 2
Try to set the value for Anti-deadzone to 110% or 120% (you will have to do this manually)
Test ingame until you have an sensitivity that is accepteable. (CAUTION: it is normal when going above 100% Anti-deadzone that ingame it's nearly impossible to drive straight)
After testing with antideadzone, go back to emu-menu and adjust the regular deadzone slider above the antideadzone
Until reaching an tiny deadzone (this is needed) for getting your car straight ,
but this way you get a more finetuned setting , and a more responsive reaction ingame.
To skip all the configuring , here are my values (to test with)
i'm using an RGT Force Feedback from thrustmaster.
Anti-deadzone is 120% but needs to be set manually so: 10204 for both x and y left thumbstick.
11044 for both x and y Right thumbstick
And the regular deadzone above the anti. For left thumb both x and y set to 33%
It really is worth a try.

@ Carlo,
Try redownloading xbox360emu.
Also are you using xp 32bit or 64bit?
you can also rename xinput1_3
to xinput1_9 , 1_2 or 1_1
Sometimes this works , ecspecially with windows xp.

Just like to say THANK YOU for making one of my gaming dreams come true!!!( to be able to drive vehicles in a open world game with good car physics)
Just wondering, is it possible to increase the steering to 900 degree? more like real life.
