Awesome interview, shows they really put a lot of heart in the authenticity of the game.

Heart? They've put there SOUL into the authenticity, I have seen very few games where the developers put this much dedication into there work.

we can be pretty sure Vito does not die now almost for sure simply because Jack was saying something like... 'you start off poor etc and then by the end you have everything you ever wanted, but it comes with a price'. (but i think even without hearing that the odds where good Vito would not die this time to keep it fresh so it's not like the first game)
so that should give us at least a hint of what happens.
also, it was cool how he said he only cast actors etc that have actually lived there and learned the walk/talk etc. so i guess that makes it about as genuine as you can get without actually being in the mob. ;)
i also liked how he was saying... we wonder what the gamer 'feels' and that is a huge thing Mafia got right with it's ending etc. so i think they are clearly on the right track to be on par with the first game, and who knows, maybe they will top it as hard as that is to believe ;)

Exactly. which is why as far as i am concerned Mafia is pretty much the only Masterpiece of video games that can rival high quality films as the 'experience' you got when playing it was quite unique.
Mafia is like a high quality film... you never get tired of watching (or playing) it as stuff like that never really becomes dated. because most video games come and go but Mafia stands the test of time for me as i still like it to this day.
it's a pretty safe bet that Jack knows what he's doing and it further going to make the game stand out. so ill just say congratulations ahead of time on making Mafia II the best game since Mafia ;)

It's also nice that Jack is a true Mafia fan, rather than an employee who is hired to make a sequel just trying to earn his pay check.

Exactly! ... but the thing is, if he was just hired for a paycheck, odds are the quality of Mafia II would have took a hit.
but i think just based on the reputation of the first game... the devs behind it are clearly passionate about it.
because it's kind of funny how Mafia, which i assume had a fairly small budget, ended up being better than any GTA game, at least in my opinion, and those i am sure had big budgets.
but it's cool now though because even though i don't know how much of a chance in budget there was from Mafia to Mafia II i think it's safe to assume Mafia II's budget was quite a bit larger. so now we can see what they can do with a good sized budget which we will soon see with Mafia II when it's released ;)

I really do believe that if Mafia 2 is successful with the masses (personally I'm betting it's this year Uncharted 2), then I could see Mafia 3 easily become 100X more known to the everyday gamer, and probably the budget would go up even more:eek:

good point. if Mafia II is successful then Mafia III could even get bigger. but i believe Mafia 1 did sell around 2 million copies(?) which is not bad.
i think main reason Mafia II seems to be slipping under the radar with your typical gamer is probably because 8 years is a lot of time in the gaming world to where most younger gamers (say 15-20-ish years old) nowadays probably never played the first game and probably don't really know about it.
but it's likely we will see Mafia III in probably less than 5 years (probably 4-ish) assuming Mafia II does well, which i think it will even if it slips under the radar a little.

He probably only played it (if he played it) because he was gonna work on the sequel...

From 2K Jack...
Yes, I bought Mafia 1. I worked at another game publisher at the time, so no free copy for me. I think I'm the only member of the team who experienced Mafia 1 as a consumer. Denby was a tester at the time, so I always tell him his opinion is skewed because he got paid to play it At my job interview with 2K they mentioned that Mafia II would be one of the games I'd get to work on. I was happy to hear that. Like many of you guys, I came away from Mafia 1 with a list of things I liked and a list of things that I thought could have been executed better.
I wasn't on the project before late 2005, so I don't exactly know what the team had planned way back in 2002. When I got involved, we looked at the very best thing from Mafia 1 - its focus on story and atmosphere. That was its strength, so that is the one thing we all agreed we would carry over into Mafia II. Every other feature was brought up to the standards of modern game design. And if a feature didn't tie into the story at all and wasn't a tremendous amount of fun, it was considered expendable. The reason for this is that we want people to understand that these are wiseguys - they aren't going to be doing various tasks for random people they encounter, which is what most side missions end up being.
No offence but know what your talking about, before you say it;)

Why would he lie, it's not like he get's a golden carrot if he does. Some people are just to insecure, like you...

Why would he lie? Exactly to get that reaction... besides I didn't said he lied I said there was a POSSIBILITY that he had played the game after he was choosen to work with 2K.
(PS: I'm insecure? That's new...)
