I have nother one, we've seen gameplay footage where you can open your hood and the trunk of your car. My question is, what purpose does this serve? Can you store stuff in the trunk of your car? Can you open the hood to repair the car? What's it all for?
I can answer this for you if you don't mind.

Yes, you can repair your car, so there's no more smoke coming out. I don't know if you can do anything else though.

Might be possible but I dont think that mobsters would dump a body in central park. cops can easily look for dead bodies in parks with their dogs ,no?

Well... for me it means two options :

1) You'll be able to choose day or night in a kind of free roam mode, available at the end of the game.
OR
2) At the end, the game is simply finished, so we can't continue playing at this point.

Because I can't imagine playing after the end while the time don't pass at all, like it's obviously the case between 2 missions.

Jack did say that we'll be able to continue playing, but he didn't want to tell how... that's pretty annoying, isn't it ?

I'd like to know which kind of antialiasing will be implemented in the game: I saw that in the graphics options there's a simple "AA Yes/No"... I hope it won't be like the blur used in GTA IV (fake AA). Anyway in the gameplay videos and in the screenshots of Mafia II there are too many jaggies... Which kind of lighting technique the engine uses? If it's deferred (DX9) there will be no AA... :(

People say theres tons of open buildings like bars and restaurants and whatever but can you actually do anything in these buildings? like can you muck around with the jukebox and pick a song? can you rob the place? can you rob all the customers?

i know you can eat/drink to replenish your health but is that all you can do?

I can answer those questions.

1. Yes, the jukebox is usuable, and you can pick and chose a song

2. Yes you can rob places. But don't return so soon, because the police will be called in which they will write a police report from the store owner, and posters will be plastered all over for you.

3. Not sure about robbing customers.

4. Yes that's technically all it does. If you chose you can get super drunk, and the screen begins to shake and spin. :D

The cops will use tommy guns, will block the roads, and will shoot to kill.

But in Mafia II if you punch someone, the cops will just tell you to stop and thats it. If the other person fought back the cops will tell him to stop. Then the cops will ask if ur okay and they'll leave you alone. Now that's realistic!;)

And if ur speeding, the cops will just write you a ticket!;)

And if you shoot something and let the cops get you, you'll go to jail.
But how does going to jail work?

Demo comes out today, August 10. You guys can screw with the cops all you want ;)

Goodfellas all the way. I liked A Bronx Tale but Vito isn't an apprentice to the guy who runs the neighborhood and you never meet his father in the game.

Hey Jack, I know this is actually a question for Dan, but he's really hard to reach. Since you played the game, I thought you would be able to answer this aswell. Unless you never used the garage, :p.

If I take a car out of my garage, and either do the mission or free roam, and the car blows up due to damage..
What will happen?

Will I be able to get it repaired in a garage? And if so, how do I get it there?
Or will the be a chance to buy an exact copy, including the upgrades?

Or will it vanish from my garage to never return?
If that's the case, how does this work with Pre-order bonuses?
I'd hate to lose them, since they're one-of-a-kind. So if I only get one of each, I won't drive them because I don't want to lose them. And if I do drive them, I will be so carefull it's not even fun anymore. XD

Also, we've seen and read that at certain missions, you can take the -Special- car of someone else. I won't name the missions, but I'm assuming you know which ones I mean yourself.
But if we're with our own car, and we steal theirs...
What happens to ours? Same deal as before here, I don't want to lose a completely upgraded car. But I also don't want to miss the chance on getting a 'rare' or 'special car'.

When you damage the engine, you can repair it by stopping, popping the hood, and using the action button on the engine.

You need to hit it exactly. It's not easy. Every different car model's gas tank is in a different spot. We practice it so we can do it during demos, and even we have trouble doing it.

No idea. Never tried it. But technically I don't think cops need a warrant to enter your house if you're running form them while they're trying to pull you over.

No. Just like in real life, if you pull your gun around a cop, you're an idiot and you deserve to be shot.

There is no arson offense. No idea what happens when you use a molotov in a shop.

This screen shot has to be around 4 years old and was obviously created with the dev tools. The answer to your question is Vito has to drive. And before anyone asks - yes, there are more than 2 skyscrapers in the city. And I've never seen that female NPC before.

As of today with the released trailers and footage, do you think there has been too many spoilers? Like we get to see Henry involved in a bunch of things we do(Vito and Joe) yet we have to kill Clemente in the hotel mission. (Henry works for Clemente right?) and then we get to see hanging around with other mobsters from other familys and such. I think we know a bit too much, or would you say I am wrong?

The framerate on my PS3 (when driving) is drastically bad. Bad enough to make me spend the 10 minutes of my demo on foot as opposed to in a car.

On foot the framerate is fine, in the car the frame rate is ghastly.

I just really hope that this demo mess up doesn't end up effecting the the final PS3 game, Jack can you pleaseclear us up on this? Today, by trying the demo version, I had the confirmation of my suspicions: this game uses a fake AA that doesn't remove jaggies, but blurs all objects, especially the distant ones, just like in GTA IV. Some sort of compromise for consoles, but inacceptable in 2010 for PC games. And I think it's all because of the deferred rendering technique this engine uses, developed in DX9.

Ok, graphics is very good, but it's not GREAT as I expected from the creators of one of the best good-looking games of 2002... There were more graphics option in the first Mafia than in this new episode. Anyway, I appreciate so much your attention to details, but the engine looks old compared to other titles, and I'm very sad to say it. Graphics isn't the only thing that matters, but I hoped there should be more attention to PC version.

2 weeks away from the release and they give as a Demo of actual recent code ( a 2K Female representative said this ), code from this year, a very poor performance. The game will most likely be like this in the launch day and no patch can solve a engine/port problem either you want it or not.

I would cancel my pre order if I had one ...

Quite possible that Jack isn't using this version at this time, quite probable id wager. Jack has been kind enough to show his presence on these forums, and things can and do change in a development cycle.

melee weapons were an example, he said they were never in the game but he lied. They were in the game the producer said so. So either

1. He lied to dodge the question

or

And have you ever seen issues like you're mentioning in any of the recent gameplay videos? I haven't.

If you are experiencing issues, please document them in another thread. Don't pollute this thread with your crying, and don't start pointless threads. Instead, please do something constructive and document the issue, provide relevant details like the specs of your console or PC and what country you live in, and this will help us to resolve any issues you may be having.

I've played the demo on the PC, which is the platform I'll purchase the game for, and on a PS3; I can guarantee that for me there were not any problems, like the ones some people are reporting. So again - fantastic job, polishing the game, and balancing the gameplay, truly a gem, which exceeded my expectations ( which were already pretty high).

He has a name. Sydney Pen But this is not used in the game. The guys simply refer to him as "that fat bastard" or "that fat ****." He is not named "Fat Bastard" as a few previewers incorrectly reported :)

Sorry McGee, I haven't personally experienced any of the issues that are being reported, so I can't say exactly what will be different visually. Everything honestly looks great when I run the various demos over here. The issues are being look into.

Yes, we removed a few characters. The reason was because they no longer fit with the story, or because their role was better served by another character.

Mafia II's cutscenes were directed by Tomas Hrebicek at 2K Czech. We worked together to make sure everything was tight. No unneeded dialog, no overly long shots.

Yes, I have definitely had my experience ruined in so many games because of bad writing and poorly executed cutscenes.

Jack do you know If the car modification was 'cut down' for the demo? As in not having full modifcation for the cars. Also; was the same done for music, news and ads (which are a little TOO kitsch IMO) as they seem to repeat incesantly ( I'm tired of hearing about the H-bomb already! :rolleyes:)

Not sure about the car mods. I've never tried to mod a car in the demo. Everything on the radio is just a slice of the full game. Repetition is likely due to the fact that you're running around for 10 minutes during a gameplay segment that should take about 3 minutes. Things will definitely repeat in the full game, but the playlists are larger, so they will repeat less often.

Most games have, I guess what I call little side games. Such as find 100 feathers, or orbs, I never usually do these cause feathers and orbs are boring. Your game has find (insert) playboy pictures, this is awesome and I will not quit playing mafia 2 until I find every single one. This is what sets this game apart from others, I love finding playboys, not sure if the first mafia had this I never got to play it, but wow this will add hours of gaming time for me. Nice job to you and your team. Beautiful environment and great gameplay.

Jack, the demo's loading screen shows a quote from Tommy in Mafia 1, do those type of quotes actually give a hint to the player before a certain mission? Also, during the story progression can we see change in the main characters' attitude and view, like a drastic psychological change? I've experienced a lot of games with bad writing, in one scene a character is shaken by a big event, and in the next there is no change in the way he acts.

btw: The cops in the demo can are like pitbulls sometimes, especially after Vito robs the store or does other huge act of vandalism. :)

Played the demo, thought it was perfect. Except for one thing, the crosshair is too big which kinda spoils the immersion for me. I remember seeing some gameplay where the crosshair was a small white dot. Which brings me to my question, is it that dot available in the final game (maybe by changing difficulty?) :)

Jack, I have a few questions.

1) In the final version, will knocked out NPCs act like dead bodies? In the demo, if you knock someone out, they act like they are dead.

2) Is there a button we can press to cancel a fight?

3) Is there any point in opening the car trunk?
