I never played Mafia I. Just recently became interested in Mafia 2 . I want to first of all Thank You for answering these people's questions. I apologize for the people who are negative and respond inappropriately (Mr. Negative). My question is simple I love playing video games, I have over 7 video games I will be purchasing from now until Christmas.

1. Why should I get this game, I know of the story and graphics, both look and sound amazing, but what if anything is unique about this game?

2. Do you have any plans for advertising this game? I have not seen any advertisements maybe I just missed them. I just want your game to be successful, and I believe a TV comercial would really help to get this game out there (like I said I only recently became interested in this game, actually on recently heard about it through word of mouth).

Yeah thanks, doesn't really say much though. Like, its a Mafia game? Baseball bat is like the most symbolic Mafia weapon like the tompson. So, I would rather wait like a month just to get it in the game rather then not.

From what i've been reading there'll be animals in certain animals

for instance you'll see guard dogs in guarded areas, and when in the sewers youll see mice but im not certain about cats.

staying ontopic: Will their be guarded areas outside of the missions likes mafia mansions?

What's so hard about looking up the tons of interviews, podcasts, gameplay trailers, previews, general information about the game and making a decision for yourself? There's more than enough information out there that you can search for to see if it's a game that you might want to purchase...and if you don't want to do that just wait for the demo. Don't expect everyone to spoon feed you on why you should buy the game or not...use your own judgement.

In Mafia, there was originally a clear antagonist (Don Morello) but a new one arises towards the end of the game. In the beginning of Mafia 2, will there be a clear enemy or rival family member in the game? Also, will new unexpected enemies arise towards the end of the game?

Yes, it runs well on PC. This is a benefit that PC users will get from the team's many optimizations for the consoles. If a tweak helped the consoles run the game better, then it usually really helps the PC run the game better. I used to run it on my Macbook Pro laptop at the voiceover recording sessions. (please don't ask what model/video/card/memory/resolution/frame rate etc.)

Hey Jack I have another two questions;


1. I'm really looking forward to this game and I am especially looking forward to seeing the city at night, I remember the original teaser trailer (back when the release date was fall 2009) at the end of that trailer you see a car driving up a street where all the neon signs are lit up etc. Is this still the same in the full game? Is there a street like that? I thought that shot was incredible and even though it only lasted a split second it created a completely different atmosphere in comparison to other scenes. Based on the official trailers you guys really managed to make each situation feel entirely different and create a completely different atmosphere for each setting
(which I truly envy you for). I can't wait to just cruise empire city at night. (btw will there be more than one mission at night or will I only have one chance to cruise the bay at night time)


2. The missions that were originally optional side missions and were later put into the main story, did you have to alter them to make them fit? I'm concerned that if they weren't a part of the story to begin with then they're not going to help the plot progress and move forward (something stories need) so it might feel like they've been forced into the story just to make the game last longer.

I'm not being negative here^ (at least not on purpose) I'm just concerned that these missions seemed to be pushed into the story when at the start they had nothing to do with it :(

I think it was Denby who said that the side missions were always a part of the story but weren't considered essential to the story. They made up what amounts to a director's cut version of the game. Most of them are still optional with a couple being mandatory (as Jack Scalici said) but there's now fewer of them and they connect in the main story so you don't have to go off somewhere to get them.

So all the side missions are still part of the story, just not an important enough part to make the main story arc.

There were also birds in the sky and on the ground and they react just like NPC's if you're violent. By that I mean they scarper if you start shooting, they don't start a fistfight with you :D

I believe that one preview said you could, but it was never confirmed by the developers. You can turn off enemy positions, though. If you leave it on, it will be like GTA or RDR where you know where all enemies are, but you can turn that off at least.

I wish you could have the same map from Mafia 1 so you don't have to look at the mini-map the whole time. I hate that because you can't look at the beautiful city.

1. Considering that there is a potential infinite number of expenses in the game (since you can customize an unlimited number of cars), I wanted to know if there was an infinite source of income in Mafia 2? Examples of this is other genres would include mini-games such as taxi driving, racing, robbing stores, etc.

2. Since it has already been said the race track is inaccessible in the game, can Vito participate in street races in the game? If so, are they inside or outside of the main story missions?

3. Is it possible for Vito to loot the bodies of the deceased for cash or other amenities?

4. I'm aware that this isn't a Mafia sim or a sim of any kind, but we've already seen beer and other sundries in Vito's refridgerator. Can Vito restock his fridge with goods by buying them in the city somewhere or does the fridge only restock itself at the end of missions?

5. Minor spoiler: On the achievements list, there is one for collecting 5 cars each for Bruski and Derek. Is this outside of the main story missions in the form of oddjobs and, if so, can Vito collect an infinite number of cars for them for an un-ending source of income?

6. Finally, will the "Jimmy" DLC's feature in-game cutscenes akin to Mafia 2, or will the DLC feature only gameplay with a loose story tying it together?

I never played Mafia I. Just recently became interested in Mafia 2 . I want to first of all Thank You for answering these people's questions. My question is simple I love playing video games, I have over 7 video games I will be purchasing from now until Christmas.

1. Why should I get this game, I know of the story and graphics, both look and sound amazing, but what if anything is unique about this game?

2. Do you have any plans for advertising this game? I have not seen any advertisements maybe I just missed them. Jack i have a playstation and sony announced yesterday that ps3 customers who have subscribed to playstation plus will get the game 24 hours early but they said 24 hours early would be the 10th and everyone else would get it on the 11th.

In Mafia, there was originally a clear antagonist (Don Morello) but a new one arises towards the end of the game. In the beginning of Mafia 2, will there be a clear enemy or rival family member in the game? Also, will new unexpected enemies arise towards the end of the game?

It does. They all have cloth physics. The PC version just has GPU-enhanced PhysX with APEX clothing. you can't expect your $200 console to be able to compete with a $2,000+ PC where cloth physics simulation is concerned.

I haven't read too much about Jimmy's Vendetta as I don't have a PS3 and much prefer PC gaming, but I'd like to ask, how long has story for that been in development for?

Ummm... probably around 2 years I think. Jimmy has a story, but Jimmy's Vendetta and Jimmy's Betrayal are less story-driven than the main game. All the stuff that it didn't make sense for Vito to do, that's why we created Jimmy. He's not in the mob but he routinely works for the mob. So he can do whatever he wants and not worry about breaking the rules. His objectives can be achieved in a matter of 5-10 minutes, whereas Vito's missions usually take between 45 and 90 minutes.

DLC content will be available in the main story. There is no secondary freeride or freeroam mode. You are usually free to roam wherever you like during the main story. Only in certain instances are the drives timed, for instance if someone is bleeding to death in your backseat.

Hey Jack I have another two questions;


1. I'm really looking forward to this game and I am especially looking forward to seeing the city at night, I remember the original teaser trailer (back when the release date was fall 2009) at the end of that trailer you see a car driving up a street where all the neon signs are lit up etc. Is this still the same in the full game? Is there a street like that? I thought that shot was incredible and even though it only lasted a split second it created a completely different atmosphere in comparison to other scenes. Based on the official trailers you guys really managed to make each situation feel entirely different and create a completely different atmosphere for each setting
(which I truly envy you for). I can't wait to just cruise empire city at night. (btw will there be more than one mission at night or will I only have one chance to cruise the bay at night time)


2. The missions that were originally optional side missions and were later put into the main story, did you have to alter them to make them fit? I'm concerned that if they weren't a part of the story to begin with then they're not going to help the plot progress and move forward (something stories need) so it might feel like they've been forced into the story just to make the game last longer.

I'm not being negative here^ (at least not on purpose) I'm just concerned that these missions seemed to be pushed into the story when at the start they had nothing to do with it :(

I created the Christmas trailer with the help of our artists and cutscene animators. It was all done in-engine. For the last shot, I was looking at it with Denby and the signage and holiday decorations were definitely our favorite part, so we asked the team to increase the number of signs and decorations. So while the city at night in the game does look similar to that shot, there is no one street in Empire Bay that is as packed full of lights as the street you see at the end of the trailer.

Nothing feels forced. Why would you worry about this if you don't even know what these missions are? :)

Examples of this is other genres would include mini-games such as taxi driving, racing, robbing stores, etc.

You can do thing like rob stores and steal cars and sell them.

2. Since it has already been said the race track is inaccessible in the game, can Vito participate in street races in the game? If so, are they inside or outside of the main story missions?

No street racing.

3. Is it possible for Vito to loot the bodies of the deceased for cash or other amenities?

No.

4. I'm aware that this isn't a Mafia sim or a sim of any kind, but we've already seen beer and other sundries in Vito's refridgerator. Can Vito restock his fridge with goods by buying them in the city somewhere or does the fridge only restock itself at the end of missions?

I think it restocks itself. This is one of those things I've honestly never noticed. You can feel free to stop off and grab food at any of the restaurants too, but you have to eat it there.

5. Minor spoiler: On the achievements list, there is one for collecting 5 cars each for Bruski and Derek. Is this outside of the main story missions in the form of oddjobs and, if so, can Vito collect an infinite number of cars for them for an un-ending source of income?

Not sure. I'm still pissed about that leak. You should ask 2K Dan what those are referring to.

6. Finally, will the "Jimmy" DLC's feature in-game cutscenes akin to Mafia 2, or will the DLC feature only gameplay with a loose story tying it together?

Yes they will start with a cutscene, bit there won't be any more cutscenes until you complete his story.

You can't shoot friendly NPCs. The crosshair turns green to indicate this.

You don't meet up with the people you know at random. This is all scripted.

That just doesn't seem to go with the story. I do hope that if I accidently shoot Joe, for example, he'd turn around behind cover and make a remark.

What happends when you get max stars(4) is most cops will switch over from smallarms to thompson machineguns and will rapidly spawn in heavy numbers and thats not the worst of it, cops will also try to corner you in by setting up armored vans, spike strips in the streets and police blockades across the bridges. Unsure if the cops at higher levels wear bulletproof vest or tactical armor but all the above is for certain and oh almost forgot to mention that their will be no FBI or Swat teams in Mafia2, just cops.. angry viscous cops with tommyguns lol.

I mean theres not many openworld games out there that just have you faceoff against a bunch of cops.

If nothing else it would be nice to see the cops upgrade in the 50s wearing bulletproof armor and weilding tommyguns.

That or like you said U.S marshals or some other branch like the CIA perhaps. Do you by chance have any pictures or video evidence of men who might look like marshals or diffrent feds at a high star wanted level in mafia2?

I heard that Jimmy's Betrayal (the PS3 exclusive) is very arcadey while Jimmy's Vendetta (cross-platform) is more like the main game. I also saw a video from one of them showing point scoring for killing pedestrians, speeding, etc. Would this be Betrayal, Vendetta or both?

Hey Jack, I know this is actually a question for Dan, but he's really hard to reach. Since you played the game, I thought you would be able to answer this aswell. Unless you never used the garage, :p.

If I take a car out of my garage, and either do the mission or free roam, and the car blows up due to damage..
What will happen?

Will I be able to get it repaired in a garage? And if so, how do I get it there?
Or will the be a chance to buy an exact copy, including the upgrades?

Or will it vanish from my garage to never return?
If that's the case, how does this work with Pre-order bonuses?
I'd hate to lose them, since they're one-of-a-kind. So if I only get one of each, I won't drive them because I don't want to lose them. And if I do drive them, I will be so carefull it's not even fun anymore. XD

Also, we've seen and read that at certain missions, you can take the -Special- car of someone else. I won't name the missions, but I'm assuming you know which ones I mean yourself.
But if we're with our own car, and we steal theirs...
What happens to ours? Same deal as before here, I don't want to lose a completely upgraded car. But I also don't want to miss the chance on getting a 'rare' or 'special car'.

In that image there is a Super Charger, Is the Super Charger exclusive to Jimmy's Betrayal DLC?

I saw a vide from GDS, Wich it had Jarek Kolar showing people the Super Charger in the gameplay of Mafia II's GamesCom mission.

Reason I ask is because they have never shown that super charger in the original game since.

Vito going to prison is part of a mission. He's arrested after burning the Buzzsaw mission, and the mission is about his life in prison, and the bond he creates with other convicted Mob members, like Leo Galante.

I can answer the first part for you, Vito does become visibly drunk. the second part of your question I would also like to know, getting pulled over for drinking is a great bit of immersion.

I have nother one, we've seen gameplay footage where you can open your hood and the trunk of your car. My question is, what purpose does this serve? Can you store stuff in the trunk of your car? Can you open the hood to repair the car? What's it all for?
