USA vs UK versions of Mafia 2

Hello, I just wondered if anyone out there could answer this question for me. If i bought Mafia 2 in the USA, would it work on my 360 in the UK ? I have a feeling that they are configured slightly differently and therefore are not compatible, but just wanted to be sure.

some games are region free, if not a PAL game wont work on NTSC system etc, the region info doesn't usually appear till around release time, there are lists around and stores like playasia.com show region for all games.
