ok first idea deals with the future tech stuff will they be extending it again from civ 4 and three which had most of the same ending techs which was disappointing. do you think technologies like metamaterials, memresistors, and genetic engineering are getting considerably more widespread? i just read that they have made photosynthetic fish artificially. mabye they could make a technology that removes food as a resource? makes it a luxury?
i dont know much about where the technologies will go but some of the things that are said about them are amazing to me.

and secondly i think that a upgradeshould be added for legendary damascus steel should be added that lets all swordsman units that have it get a huge bonus against horses as they can cut right through them.

and a space race victory should be "won" by building a networked geosycronous ring teathered to the world be space elevators in every major civ on the equator. I think that this would be a monumental acheivement much more important here on earth than simply gettig to another star where even communicating to earth would take years.

Which techs do you suggest? I do think that there are interesting techs coming up. And something like jules verne and science fiction has in fact always been a trend setter. I already suggested something along the lines but to say whether I would second a certain tech suggested by you I would need to know the tech. Removing food is possible sure. Could you elaborate whether the fish is able to survive without food (I doubt that) or provide the paper/link?

I think colonizing another planet is more important because it removes the danger that a sentient species is killed because the only planet it is living on is going down. In fact, apart from longevity, I think the most important tech to be developed right now is to actually colonize another planet. Even though that is economically complete nonsense - suvival is more important :D

That's a cool idea. Although, why horses? Shouldn't it be a general bonus? One thing I'd like to see added to the game would be a system of tech wonders. They would work like regular wonders but would have to be researched rather than built. Damascus steel would be a good one. Other examples could be Greek fire, the Manhattan Project, etc.

What would be the purpose of such a ring?

1st point- Totally agree that Civ should extend into future techs, some hardcore players would say that this game shouldnt do too much of that, but they're just cranky because they're old.

2nd- Like someone else said..... why?

3rd- You got that from 3001 Final Odyssey? I personally think colonizing other planets are more important.

i just want new future era techs because civ 4 and civ 3 had basically the same techs toward the end of the game. I would be open to suggestions, i wouldnt exactly know what to call the tech though as it is in the future.

well because i like the legends of Arabic warriors cutting right through crusader horses i think its awesome. although someone did take it further up above and yes making tech wonders would be great!

i did get it from the final odyssey and it would be a huge thing in bringing the world together it would have to be a team project and just seems more end game to me than colonizing another planet (which would come before creating this.)

i dont think it can survive without food the article i read had more to do with making a photosynthetic organism live symbiotically with the fish inside it. something to do with injecting the plant thing into a fish with clear skin. its not a truely photosynthetic fish but its a step in the right direction

Yeah, the future tech has to be either really vague or clear step into what we are actually researching ATM, Going into detail like "Metamaterials", "Memrisistors" is fun for a mod but for vanilla game its confusing, like where do you put these techs and why? Is it clear that we are reaching this tech and that I am gonna be using them on my microwaves in 10 yrs? On the other hand, Things to do with "Nanotechnology" and "Genetic Manipulation" etc... is easier to determine where to put on the tech line. Its a little more vague, you can determine that Nanotech is just a drastic miniturization of electronics therefore goes after that somewhere in the beginning of Future Era etc... you get my point, i guess.

Nah, Promotions are in the ciV, if its anything like cIV, you can just mimic this by focusing xp on the gradual promotions of anti-cav for swordsmen, waste of time cus it would be better served by spearmen but if thats the route you wanna take.

Would be a nice team project, adding a bit more to post-modern era/end game gameplay. After the Apollo programs and space elevator a new project could be this. Cool idea as long as its a team project, instead of a victory condition. Could add commerece and +'s in diplomacy between the nations involved. Besides, about the victory condition, how is building this stop every civ from fighting and claim you as victor? If it wasnt a team project you'll need to control and fight for every city close to the equator, and if your gonna do that you might as well go for conquest. If your gonna do a team project approach then what makes the player win the game? Why would the AI participate in a project that makes a competitor win? Anyways, its a waste of time to implement as a victory condition.
