I created this thread, So we can talk about what we like, And what we don't like in Mafia II.
I myself, Think the game is absolutely phenomenal, Except a few things I will write my list of things that I don't like.
1. They removed Manual Transmission
2. They removed the Dynamic Car Crash System
3. They removed the Car Mileage
4. They made car storage way too Arcady, I would have preferred a Parking Lot
5. They ditched the GamesCom clothes selection, And yet again same as the garage went Arcade.
6. They also ditched the CountrySide
7. They also made it available to have 8 weapons at once, Wich is Arcady again.
8. And One of things that bothers me most for Combat, Is that when you have a half full magazine, And you reload the gun, You don't loose the remaining bullets in the magazine.
I really wish they kept everything from Mafia I, And just added.
Why did they remove features that made Mafia I so great.:(
Mafia I was so great all because of it's simulation. And now they have gone arcady style. Maybe it will be different on Hard mode? or different on PC? I hope so.:(
But everything else in Mafia II as I said earlier, Is phenomenal it's a real gem the damagable interiors etc, Just amazing I say well done to the developers.:D
Who cares? stop complaining this game is going to be epic even if we don't have some of the little elements. I mean seriously, we have to fill our cars with gas! That's amazing very realistic touch. Also I think i was old that there still is a countryside but its smaller, I'd be fine without a countryside because they'd have more room for a bigger city with a lot more detail. So get over your litany of petty complaints and appreciate that we're getting a wonderful game like this at all!

The player character is named Vito Scaletta, Tommy (Angelo) was the name of the player character in Mafia I, but I'm sure you knew that....

Really all this time i been calling him tommy because he looks like a tommy you know forgeddaboutit.

I said german mafia.
originally they were going to be in the game, but i guess somebody at the office changed their mind.
I mean think about it before you say bad idea.
Tommy is just getting back from the war after fighting the nazis. So he gets into the mob and then he runs into empire cities german mob. The german mob was in favor of nazism and know that tommy served in ww2, so tommys past begins to haunt him, and this agression towards the germans fuels him even more to wanting to kill the german mob and its don.
but no worries its not going to happen.

The crosshair is truly horrible, man i hope to god they let me change it to just a dot or something like in Battlefield 2. Its too big and ugly as of now.

Go play Gayfield 2 and get shot 3 times with a sniper from across the map and not die.

That wasnt the point, i spoke about the absolut awful look of the crosshair, not what you said.
Can someone provide me a link where no crosshair is comfirmed?

Out of all the gameplay videos, there are ones where the crosshair looks big and ugly, ones where it looks more compact and nicer, and ones where the reticule is just a dot, like RDR.

Maybe....
the crosshair changes depending on the type of gun being used.
Just something to consider since a machine gun will spray ammo in a much wider path than a handgun.

I love everything except for the stupid time span. I wanted it to be like 200+ hours, especially since in real life it takes probably 15 years on average to get made, though not long to be rich.

Why the hell is there already a thread like this when the game isn't even out yet? We'll just be basing it on things we've read/seen without experiencing it for ourselves... at the moment it might seem that they've taken a lot out from the original but until you actually play it you can only assume it feels arcade-like. This forum is terrible sometimes.

How do you make a decision? You use your best judgement based on the information you have.
We're just listing the things we know about which we like the diea of and the things we don't like the idea of. It's just speculation "I don't think I'll like the shooting mechanics because the crosshair looks pretty ugly and there's not much kick back from the bigger guns"

Of course it would be more effective once we've played the game but we haven't played it yet so we use our best judgement based on the information we have.

I dont think ive ever posted my three biggest peeves or best features in mafia2
Lets start with cons shall we
The Bad
- No melee weapons
- No way to perform a driveby(shoot out vehicles)
- No countryside
The Good
- 100s of explorable buildings that can all be destroyed(to a certain extent)
- Fighting gangs in the city
- Realistic police(handing out tickets, stopping people who speed or run redlights and breakup fights without pulling out a gun and blowing vito away lol.
No game can be perfect, but this is the mafia we're talking about. It's expected to be messy and a whole lotta fun

This is my opinion:
Bad:
No melee weapons
No shooting from car
Map is not big enough
no swimming. I know, you will not swim the hole day but its stupid that when you go into the water you teleport on the coast (!!!)
No side missions, so I want really damn good story to replace that.
No countryside
Like:
Love 40'-50' Cars
Tuning your cars up
interesting city
Great atmosphere
Nice music
Police system
a lot of weapons
Buying Clothes
Cars run out of fuel

This thread was also created three months ago before this forum boomed and there weren't that many threads. 1 1/2 months ago there was an update once every 10-30 minutes to a thread instead once every half a minute.
My Pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard and they're like "do you wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards, I will trade you... but not my Charizard.

Dislikes :
- I've seen in some video that when your car is on the side, when Vito is going out of it, he just respawn out. There's no animation where he came out by the windows... he just appear out of the car, by some magic trick...
- Vito can carry more weapons than any man could carry in real life. Ok for 3 weapons, but he can carry all US army stock in his jacket for God sake...
- Vito can't swim, ok, no prob with that but like for the car accident, he just appear out of the water, like nothing has ever happened to him... yeah not even wet...
- No day/night cycle
That's all I've in mind for now.

No manual transmission - i love driving. It was perfect in Mafia 1.
No free ride
No extreme ride - that gave me another several days of fun with that game, and was funny too.
And that's my first impression, i'm at start of the story and already dissapointed. Also GTX 480 have troubles with the game (and thats wierd).

It was an exaggeration, what u evidently didnt get.
2K now can of course release a patch (not some crappy dlc) with support for wheels and such, and prove me wrong... The support is evidently there (if u can do it by hacks), only mapping and menu are missing (which would in my opinion cost only few MDs to implement).

What REAL MAFIA1 FANS miss :
- Free Ride (weather,Day,Time+some nice and real side missions to mess arround)
- Less rush gaming ( why does killing lights/engine is a no go? )
Thats what made mafia1 that awesome. Details. When im parking in wanna kill the engine and just look arround. Running motor.. eerh
- Weapons. WTH? i got 5 sub guns and 5 pistols .. yeah GTA says hello
( mafia1 : you needed to drop guns if ya hadnt enough space.. )
MAFIA II: You even KEEP THE WEAPONS EVEN if they are out of ammunitions.
Did the devs thoughed console people would cry because they would need to pick up the weapons again ? lol
- Traffic lighs penalty.. HES SPEEDING .. *get his ass*
HES PASSING BY WITH 120 miles ph and a *RED LIGHT* "yeah what ever"
- Trains.. DUDE!1 they´ve model so much detail in that city.. Did ya checked out the train station that was watchable at the beginning? Real live rendering.. Thats why its in the game aswell.. do we use it for gameplay? NOPE lol.. WHat a nice 3D modeled city.. didnt get used

- AI.. Cops crash your car with 200 mph and kill a poor old lady that just wanted to enter a store *lol*

Story was to short, I din't feld that Vito was poor, after one small job Joe says in the next chapter ''were done with the small time jobs'' (huh I've only done one :rolleyes: )
.I din't feld as a mobster once I was made, I've seen Don Falcone only a few times.
Where was the talking with the boss and doing some real mafia busness, I bet for a 100% that if the story was just longer and expanded like first 5 mission just small time jobs after that bigger jobs than getting made and after that. doing mafia jobs and earning big money...
That is what I miss in Mafia II
