Don't you hate it when your "friend declare war on you and rampages around you previously lightly defended border? I suggest that cities should be able to conscript or draft units on a 1 turn basis. Of course, there would have to be limits like, you would have to be a war, your units might not be able to leave say, a 3 hex radius from the city they were drafted and they are poorly trained, and might have say, a 20 disadvantage from conscription. What I'm proposing is basically a hastily called up militia.
Secondly, I'd like some sort of way to train units over time, instead of fighting with them. 1) you could pay X amount of gold to gain 1 experience. Two, you could do something like garrison them in a fort and have them "train".

I would be very happy with a way to train military units. I have no idea why it hasn't been implemented yet actually...

Great idea! Certain abilities could be trained, but not all, and fighting gains not to be lost, either. :cool: It should take time to complete the training, as well as limits on it.

you can already draft units, you need a certain civic, forgot which one, but you can only draft a certain amount per turn, and it takes one population from the city you draft in.
Like your training idea though.

I really do like the idea of training in a fort, maybe (to use the Civ IV model, not sure how experience works in V) just up to 5 or 10 overall (or maybe 5, then with a tech, 10). That way, keeping a military can pay off. I also like the idea of a militia. It's not even a modern thing, Egypt fought the first recorded land battle (Kadesh) with an army made up of militia. It would also help when barbarians first start showing up and you have to either let them ruin your infrastructure and set you back, or cross your fingers that you win with that 65% chance.
