[Adam Addict L]

Oedipus Valley is a part of the outer city located in a small ocean trench. The largest part of it is an industrial factory in which most of the city's firearms are manufactured. It isn't designed as a housing district, so there aren't any hotels or apartment complexes, mainly just large train-cart styled tramways that connect the different depots together.

The area lacks the confined glass tunnels and corridors that connect buildings in most parts of the city, since the majority of buildings in this district are indoors. A large metal globe covers the entire area, so almost all light is unnatural, though small glass openings in the ceiling do provide a look at the outside. The scrap metal over walls and graffiti most closely resembles that of a bad downtown gang more so then the religious/political scriptures over the rest of the city. Areas are divided by rusted chain link fences and sickly looking pools of water.

Vending machines in this area lack the jolly tunes and bright lights that most areas harbor. Most businesses are run out of shady looking shacks and most factory workers are crooks and thugs. If you aren't send to Persephone, you most likely ended up here. The name comes from the tale of Oedipus Rex, who killed his father and mated with his mother in a tragic turn of events.

Christopher Nash - Psychology

Christopher Nash: Living underwater, in secret city, without going outside can be really frustrating. I've studied on Oxford in Great Kingdom. I was one of the best students in England. Psychology diploma and good work in London gave me an experience. I know how to talk with mad people. Schizophrenia, phobias and stress - on the surface they are really big. So what can be underwater? In city hidden somewhere at Atlantic Ocean, where nobody can go outside without permission? I think that Andrew Ryan could make a special trips. Two hours, one day on the surface. It will make that poor people better. Of course, person like Andrew Ryan will impose charges. Human mind is not a toy or factory on which we can earn money. This is art, perfect thing made by nature. My task is help them. I will show them a wonderful power of psychology

So i decided to further the character i made. Cartard Levy. Heres his next audio diary. If i have time i do plan on making a website similar to SiTS but from a Rapture office instead. So heres the diary.

" I have been hearing many rumors from several citizens that Ryan was a lier. Ha, they all are the liars. I've know Ryan since i was 15 a few days after i escaped that evil labor camp. When i first meet him i thought, why do you care about me. He asked me, who i was...I told him something i knew never to say. I'm a jew. For the next 5 seconds i thought he was going to shoot me. But no...he didn't. He says come with me my son. I put my life in his hands...and he let me live. Why. At the point i told myself. I will never put my life in someone elses hands again. He spared my life when he knew it was my time to die."

Audio: (record player makes music of Rise Rapture Rise)Been stuck in the Drop for awhile nothing to do execpt listen to my songs I sung in the Limbo Room.Now that Baby Eleanor is gone,wel kidnapped,im scared to show my face around The Family.Sophia shouldn't have trusted me and i know it....(record Player Shreeeks and ends record and Lights go out with a zap sound)That just shows the condition the Drop is in,well at least my apartment.I mean I know there was goning to be rolling blackouts to somehow help Ryan.But I dont think they were supposed to make that sound!I have a bad feeling that somethings off,well the maintance guys will fix it.Who am I kidding they dont care about the Drop or us!?!?

Christopher Nash - Parasites

Christopher Nash: In underwater city - utopia, where artists, doctors, writters live, something is rotten. Lower social strata, all of that workers, cleaners and not important people started riots. They want to destroy ideal country, trying to introduce their own system based on the division of property because of the needs, without social strata and divide of all goods between citizens, especially give to poor. And abolition of private property, what will bring a little chaos. All of the places would be common good, so if Arcadia, for example, would have been flooded, everybody would have to pay for it. Workers want a system that really would serve mainly to them. They play in the psychologists, inciting to violence, inciting to fight with "cruel, merciless, favoring richer Lord of Rapture". But we can't say that they are not disciplined. Hunger strikes, riots, but why they do that? Human mind is undiscovered. They think that government controls them. More duties than rights - in their view. Fighting for freedom, which they never lost. Special, social founds for poor and other charities. It is not enough for them. They are parasites, eating host, want more and more, simply do not notice that host is dying. They just want more. They want their imaginary liberty, special privileges, trying to take control over Rapture. Like a balloon absorbing more and more air. Too much air and poof! And it will happen soon. Age of parasites is about to end soon. Decent citizens will be able to live normally.

And then he threatens me to send me to Persephone if i don't get over myself. Some father Ryan is, he took me in and now he is throwing me aside for Tennebuam. No one understands her like me. I know her because she was from the same Labor Camp i was at. She used me as a lab rat for her experiments. I swear that Tennenbuam will pay and i promise myself that."

"Pain"

After my first service in the war, I was diagnosed with a congenital insensitivity to pain... and I was informed that never again would I feel the slightest pin prick or sensation of heat. I was devastated, of course, but I didn't let it stop me. During my second service I received multiple lacerations from my own field knife, scalded the flesh of my arms issuing soup rations, and broke three ribs tightening my own harness on a rappel. So then I come to Rapture, this broken woman with too many scars to count... And some Doc promises me it's not like that. "Your body," he says, "is a story book... You're the only one who can write it." And so I think... Maybe I should write a sequel?

"Grand Invitation"

I recall that I was invited to Rapture on account of my "resilient valor, spoken leadership, and loyalty to the development of (myself)". Ryan personally noted that it was a triumph "unlike that of the regular dames". Now I'm not implying Mr. Ryan is a sexist, but the old-fashioned lens through which he sees women is black and white. You're either a dame, or you're damn near a goddess. But I could do without the diamonds and pearls. When I shake Ryan's hand, it'll be because of the penny in my pocket, not some silly double standard. Mr. Ryan will be giving a speech down by Titan Falls this evening, I'll be in attendance... Maybe if I'm lucky I'll catch his eye on account of my class and not my ass.

well, it appears that as i waken from my.......slumber.....shall we say............ that my city is in ruins. it seems that the grip of the parasites has followed my once more, even in my kingdom does the self destructive virtue of "altruism" pester me. in the end, all i have worked for has been destroyed........... all of the genius my hand has created has been lost........to the ocean that housed it..............and it is in the end, that i now realize my mistake............that in blind anger.......my deaths have been, ironic................as i stand here, in my office, the ocean laughs at me..........that even my greatest miracle: to "cheat" death, has failed................what have i created.....amongst all things evil..........a testament to myself?!?!?......to greatness!?!??!!?

and now...........[laughs].........i see the irony my hand has created...............in many ways................i stand here.. deprived of exits.................. stuck in my own kingdom.....................atlas, lamb, fontaine, and even the child..............they all saw something in me that they did not like...........and never did i see that for myself..................and now...............as an old man.......deprived of oxygen............ do i see the vicious tyranny in my irony............................................. .

I was just thinking about this an hour ago while I was playing BS1 and on that part of the game...wasn't it turned off?

And i saw it and it was. I activated it and went on my way thinking thats why he wont some back. Then realizing a minute later that I just turned it back on :rolleyes:

I thought I'd comment on the whole "Ryan back from the dead" phenomenon/batter by asking, anyone think that should have been another ending? Like, if maybe their was a third (or fourth, of you're specific) ending to BioShock 1 if you reactivated the Vita-Chamber?

I think it would have made better sense to have it, that way they could have tied up that string for all the stubborn folks who want him back.

These scientists down here in Rapture are a Godsend! My daughter-in-law, Susan came back from something called the "Gatherers Garden." Whatever that is. I stuck this needle inside my arm. At first I thought it was like poision, my body ached, my version was blurred, and then...I started to feel a lot better. In fact, it was the best I've felt for so long...its a miracle. This may even fix me right up! I need more! Lots More!

Don't under sell yourself! The only thing I know of Lloyd is one quote written down; I made my other ones belivabel because I can picture their voices in my head and can work with that. Lloyd; no audio so it will pure speclatory; though from his quote; I can imagine what he will sound like.

In reference to your question, Steinmans_Apprentice, try using the BioShock wiki to get the boarder from most Audio Diary images. That's what I think everyone here does. Else why, just use the boarder from one of our submissions. Paste the boarder over one of your images that's fitted right and make any necessary adjustments ^_^

I thought it was about time to get some contests going on here. 'Ought to generate some submissions and get some nice healthy competition flowing :) The contests will be a very simple set up, with judges ranking submissions from best to swell (because there's no such thing as a bad audio diary ;) ), sharing their results. I will then announce a winner and two runner ups when each contest has run its course. If the contests don't work out as planned, due to judge problems or limited submissions, oh well. It's just a fun contest ^_^

Prizes

It wouldn't be a contest without prizes, but I'm not a swag/souvenir dispenser either. Given the topic of this thread, winners will each be awarded the use of prestigious Audio Diary avatars based on their success and in whichever contest (for example, first place for best Rapture Cameo is Chuck Norris (http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/xx319/Beaten_with_a_Rock/ChuckDiary.jpg?t=1271229734)). Winners may use/flaunt them as necessary ^_^ they're only bragging trophies and, if used, subtle advertisements for this thread. Their ownership is based on trust and integrity- using them out of turn or when you've clearly didn't earn them is like wearing a Troll badge. Don't do that :o

Submission Guidelines

Submissions can be any relative length, but a diary that is too long or too short could be overlooked or ranked low. That said, it's smart to keep to the typical game diary length of around 40-70 words. Photos aren't considered part of a submission. I choose to do this because I know some contributors aren't blessed with editing skills/software, and I want this to be fair and balanced. A photo contest will come in time. When submitting, clearly identify which contest you are submitting to by using the following format:

For the sake of fairness and ease, each contestant may only submit one diary for each contest. I will post the opening and ending dates of each contest in good time. Only submissions before each contest's end will count.

There will only be three judges for each contest, including myself and two others. I would like to have the same two judges joining me for every contest, but I know that may be unrealistic. Judges can not compete. If you wish to submit, you may not be a judge as well. Apologies 'yall. My only guidelines for being a judge are that you have some form of history on this thread, be loyal and honest enough to read every submission to make a fair selection, and please be frequent. Stopping by and checking up every other day is fine, so long as you're available to post on the day of the contest end. You may judge for one contest and submit to another. It's up to you. I'll choose the judges myself, if you just ask me here or by PM that'll be fine.

Each contest will have it's own informational post regarding the prompt, any specific guidelines, the dates it opens and closes, the judges participating, etc. I'll also list submissions there, so if you post a submission and notice that I don't put it on the list, just remind me so I don't miss any. This is the first contest we'll be holding here, mainly because it is the most basic concept and we've had a great deal of submissions like it in the past.

Prompt

Write an Audio Diary from the perspective of a cameo character in Rapture, be it from another work of fiction or from nonfiction.

Guidelines

1. Character may not have been featured in the BioShock canon in any way.
2. While we've all been subject to the profane and obscene, let's know ours and others' limits. Please.
3. Your submission must abide by all forum rules.
4. Try to be relevant. We might not all know the character from that one book that you read in Fourth grade.
5. I hold the overruling ability to not accept a submission I feel is destructive or critical to others, myself, and the 2K community in general. I don't need to give a reason. I'm a fair guy, so this will be a fair contest.

*Click* Been playing Jazz musician most of my life and now that Rapture is in ruins...there's no need for musicians like me in Rapture's Civil War. So I quit. I don't regret quiting. I quit so i can spend my days looking into the vast ocean that hides Rapture. Looking back at it all it was smart in quitting. I know on the surface many wonder if im MIA or KIA. It doesn't matter. If im right it's now 1955 and most of Rapture is destroyed but... even so, in my eyes Rapture is the same as the day i vanished from the world. Ha. I guess what keeps me alive is how beautiful the view is through the window....Maybe because it gives one a chance to view world differently from the other side. *click

Daemin Miller is based off a real life person by the name of Glenn Miller who's plane dissappeared near the England Channel. His personnality really fits the character i made for him.

EDIT: It's entirely off-topic, but I'm really happy. I was given a Frank Sinatra record today, but when I pulled it out of the sleeve, I found that there was also a Columbia vinyl inside. A twofer!

Consequently, the Columbia vinyl (one with a couple of Foxtrots on it) was a 78 rpm size, which my record player doesn't run at :eek: It struck me as very weird, so I've got to ask- is this a much older size? Doesn't anyone know if that's even still produced???

Since no one seems to like my fan fic as a story, I guess I'll post them as audio diaries...

[AUDIO DIARY #1: "My Day Love"



Pools of sorrow, and waves of joy are drifting through my open mind. As thoughts of you begin to flood, they posses and caress my heart. Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes, touch my eyes, and stream into my pulsating veins. Thoughts of you never refrain, and images of you capture my mind. When our lips tactile, my heart pounds, and my skin quivers. You define my existence, you are my never ending joy that constantly brings me a smile.

Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through your open ears, exciting and inviting me, only to once more remind that you are there, and I am once more here.

Where I abode, we have been abandoned by the traitor the vindictive Andrew Ryan, hanging and slaughtering the innocent men and women of Rapture. Blood spills, and stains the cobbled stone streets. Whilst death wreaks it's putrid scent across Hestia. Gatherings would arrive to Apollo Square and view the terse sentencing of the pronounced traitors. Here were the servants of Ryan's adversary. Mother's, Father's, even puerile children would be marked by the wrath of Ryan.

Those who rebelled against Ryan and his regime, the "parasites" as he defined them would meet there fate, hanging from a noose. But the disquieted citizens of Rapture would not stand to see such massacre.

Though once word that the mogul, Fontaine had perished in a shootout against Ryan's men in the fisheries we had thought, perhaps, some normalcy would forbode. But alas not, persecutions were still carried; while new laws were implemented.

But from the moral black ashes rises a man. Whispers are heard across the districts, a man who wishes to prevail and defeat the tyranny of the bloody Andrew Ryan. A man who does not come from wealth, but rather unwealth. Today the hero speaks to us, he calls for an assembly at noon for all the mothers, and fathers, sisters and brothers, old and thee young of Hestia. He will unveil the truism, and be our messiah. He will relinquish us from the grasp of evil, and with the help of god be the one that we call "Savior".

Diary #2: "Sunshine"



My Dearest Madison, I dreamt of you today. We were together, are hands intertwined, gallivanting in the lush gardens in Arcadia. The aesthetic was marvelous, lights shimmering from the trees, grass as green as spring, and faraway birds singing high pitched melodies. I picked a glean apple from a tree, and handed the apple into your soft callous palm. You were euphoric, as was I. We sat down, by a nearby streaming creek, sitting on the green of the earth, we laid, you on top of I. Our bodies warm, you nestled your face into mine. I could feel the sensual breath passing over my ear. Time went by, and my eye lids became heavy, descending lower, and lower.

I woke up. Laying flat on my back on my back staring into the dark abyss. How quick the sun can drop away.

But today will not be claimed by sadness. Word has been spreading in Hestia of our "savior" seen today dispersing from a Bathysphere in the main station. His assembly will be called for in a few hours, and I will make certain of it that I shake the man's hand.

Audio Diary 3: "A Sunday Smile"



A man shouted from the lower floor, "our savior has arrived, our savior has arrived!" The man banged on barrels with a wooden twig, shouting once more "Hurry everyone! He's here!"

A crowd had formed at the lower floor, peaking through the tarnished gates looking for the enigmatic man. Charlie, one of the elected "captains" staggered to the entrance, shoving the clamoring audience aside. Foot steps became apparent, the crowd simmered down, becoming more glum. From the shadowy walk way illuminated the dim light of hope. Our savior. The crowd shifted there heads attempting to see a brief glimpse.

The shadowy figure appeared, and the audience began to jeer. The crowd stepped further back making room for the figure. Flames from the barrels flapped higher, and higher, exploding with a sharp crackling ring. The once shadowy figure, was revealed by the fiery glow. The advent of the savior.

His slim figure, and lanky physical appearance was most striking. As he shifted his feet forward, a silence had transpired among the crowd. His distinct face, with his piercing dim hazel eyes, and wavy brown hair gave us at least some prospect of others claim. His face was opaque from the reflection of the flames, a tiny scar was also noticeable on his upper left cheek. His garments was naught stirring, that of which reflected the common unwealthy man. His jeans were grimy, and partly torn. While his shirt was stained with oil, and grime. He was a working man alright, someone who we could, all, ultimately identify with.

Standing in the center, erecting tall, with his left arm upright, the savior spoke "carpe dieme my brothers, carpe diem."

The crowd cheered! There faces had now become vivified, at last a Sunday smile we had warranted for a while.

2/3) I totally get it in the context of the story, but it obviously isn't changed up by much that I could recognize it on an off-glance. Secondly, just making it "not word for word" doesn't change the fact that it's "still plagiarism".

Perhaps it's best to just stick with original material on all accounts, given that if I typically see one line that isn't original, I just assume that everything else isn't and is just from things I haven't read.

Audio Diary 4: "Rise Rapture Rise!"


He continued to keep his arm aloft. The savior requested a platform to stand on. Charlie swift on his feet, fetched away from the crowd, found one lying against a wall. He placed the elevated platform in the center of the square, the crowd encircled.

The savior tented himself onto the platform, he halted. With the same excellent posture, he spoke.

"My brothers, my sisters, I've come here into 'da poor district of Hestia to wail me cry. Me father, and me mother, may god bless 'dere souls, were common folk like ouse. They worked through blood, sweat, and tears, but never cried fowl. 'Dey were snatched from 'dere home, and taken away. They were held in Persephone for "abiding the parasites."

They did horrible things to 'dem. I visited, and saw 'dem, I barely recognized 'dem. They, they, were experimented on, bein' tested on plasmids. I went to 'dere cell, and 'dey were just starin' out the porthole and starin', goddamn starin'! Blood begun gushin' out of me mother's eye's, she begun wailin in pain, sitting on her wooden chair, shrillin' 'dis sharp shriek. Me da 'den stood and also begun wailing. I stood, cryin' for I couldn't believe what 'dat Andrew Ryan did to 'dem. I rushed over to dem, put the guards pushed me back.

Den', den I saw what 'dey did. As da' guards were pullin' me back, 2 other guards went up to 'dem and shoot them right in the ****in' head! RIGHT INTO THE ****IN' HEAD! I broke away from 'da guards, an ran to 'dere dead corpse. Me fathers hand wrapped around me mothers waist, they laid 'dere motionless, with blood gushin' out of 'dere skull."

As the savior spoke with his thick Irish accent, the crowd faces became melancholic, women began crying, while fathers sat down, couldn't bearing the sadness and horror no more.

The savior continued. "Rapture, my friends is a different place then what it once was. Friends butcherin' one another, mothers stranglin' babies in cribs. The immoral tyrant, ryan, murderin' people in 'da front of 'da square. Persecuting them for nothin'. He's become paranoid, evoking his own fear, of what his city has become. While the rich, lavish in there homes, free from all the persecutions. Bein' able to "pay off" Ryan and his men. But we won't stand for this! No! NO! We won't! The rich shouldn't live in there nice luxery apartments, while you live in 'da pitiable Hestia. With no doctors for da' young and sick. No food 'dat ouse can buy, and no money which you can live in!

When I was in Persephone, I saw, I witnessed rich wives paying bail for 'der husbans, or rich secretaries payin' bail for 'der bosses. While 'da poor lay in 'der sulk, bein experimented on ta' death! We were promised a better life in Rapture but in the end we have become worser off! The janitors have stayed the janitors, while 'da doctors soak in more wealth creatin' new experiments with no restraints. But we were promised, we were promised! 'Dat spuff Ryan, told us that we would lavish in luxery, and style. Doin' stuff we could never afford on 'da surface! Lies, and ****in' lies. Are children are dyin' from the simple cold, and are families are starvin'. No, we won't stand for this! We won't stand for this!

I cry for a revolution! I say we rise, and fight the oppression we have 'ben set upon! We will rise from the murky waters of stench, and sink the greedy people of Rapture. We will rise, we will rise, we will rise! Rise Rapture rise! Rise Rapture rise!"

The once woeful crowd, had now transpired into a verve. Men shouting "down with the bloody Ryan!" Mothers lachrymose "my children will not live like this! Down with Ryan!!!" The crowd began to parrot the savior, they chanted in unison. "Down with Ryan! Down with the rich! Down with Ryan! Rise Rapture Rise! Rise Rapture Rise!"

The savior spoke once more "I declare we rebel onto the streets, with guns, and take down the wealthy, and Ryan and show what's it's like to feel our suffering! Me name is Atlas friends, and I say ****, ryan, and long live the poor!"

Our savior had arrived, and his name was "Atlas."

Write an Audio Diary from the perspective of a cameo character in Rapture, be it from another work of fiction or from nonfiction.

Guidelines

1. Character may not have been featured in the BioShock canon in any way.
2. While we've all been subject to the profane and obscene, let's know ours and others' limits. Please.
3. Your submission must abide by all forum rules.
4. Try to be relevant. We might not all know the character from that one book that you read in Fourth grade.
5. I hold the overruling ability to not accept a submission I feel is destructive or critical to others, myself, and the 2K community in general. I don't need to give a reason. I'm a fair guy, so this will be a fair contest.


Here you are Gilbert, with the offended parts bolded. It's not a bad audio diary, but it doesn't work for this contest. This is a contest putting someone from another work of fiction or someone from real-life in Rapture, not about writing diaries for a BioShock character. I don't get why so many people don't understand the prompt :confused:
