I recently finished Bioshock 2 and i must say I loved the game. There were, however, some issues with the overall story that i want to get straight.

First of all, it is my understanding that Sofia Lamb uses religion in some sense to get "support" from the others in Rapture, thus creating the "family". Am i correct in this assumption? If so, does this mean that Sofia Lambs influence was also shown in the first Bioshock game? i specifically remember hearing Splicer’s make religious comments throughout the game, such as " Jesus loves me so" and so on. The reason i assume that such comments may have been influenced by Lamb is due to the fact that we learn throughout the game that Lamb, like Fontaine, was trying to bring down Andrew Ryan through influencing the community. Also, speaking of Fontaine, was Sofia Lamb released from prison around the same time Fontaine became Atlas or around the time when Fontaine was killed in the first Bioshock?

My second question revolves around the main character of the first Bioshock. As i was playing throughout Bioschock 2 i noticed that in some areas there were pictures on the walls referring to the first Bioshock main character. Although they speak of him, and his significant role in the big daddy productions, i still don’t understand the pictures, such as having the picture of the plane crash from Bioshock one or showing a picture of his hands with his unique tattoo across his wrist. Had he become a religious figure/martyr within the slumps of Rapture, and if so, why?

My third question revolves around the main character in Bioshock 2. So we play as the first big daddy ever, correct? If this is true, i am assuming that this means all the "protectors" in Bioschock one were experimental projects, correct?

My last question is…what the hell happened to Tenebaum (I’m sorry, I’m not sure if this is how you spell her name). She shows up at the start of the game, which i thought was great, and then disappears... why? What does she do? Does she survive and leave? If there is one thing i was disappointed about is the fact that i have no clue what happens to her. Did i miss any clues?

Having played Bioshock five times and the sequel three times I have to say I still have no idea what the story is about. There are full explanations elsewhere on the net no doubt - check out wiki. I would imagine any holes will be filled in by the end of Bioshock 3.

No - the Big Daddies in the first game are the "final product". Delta is the first big daddy who was sucessfully bonded to a Little Sister. He was made before the ones in Bioshock 1.

Jack (the main protagonist of the first game) is depicted by Wales' cult as a manifestation of God, who struck down the Devil/Tyrant (Andrew Ryan)without saying a word. Sofia Lamb points out in an audio diary that Jack, in a way, managed to transcend the Self, the selfishness of the Ego, due to essentially being a mindless, sleepwalking assasin physiologically and mentally bred to perform a certain action. He laso proved to be more effective that his self-aware opposition. She basically gets the idea to use the Would-you-kindly conditioning to create a selfless, mindless altruist (Eleanor) instead of a selfless, mindless killer.

Simple - because he managed to do what no one else could - he killed Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine. He was also the perfect altruist in Lamb's eyes - a person, who can be manipulated in doing anything with absolutely no regard to himself, because of the W-Y-K mental conditioning.

No such thing - Delta wasn't the first ever Big Daddy, he was the first successfully bonded with a Little Sister one. As his name suggests, he could be the fourth Alpha series Big Daddy (Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet). All of the Big Daddies in BioShock 1 and BioShock 2 (except the Alpha series) are production type ones. The main difference between the Alpha series (did I mention Subject Delta was one?) and the production type Big Daddies (Rosie, Bouncer, Rumbler) is that the Alphas are permanently/physically bonded to a SINGLE Little Sister, meaning that if her heart stops long enough, the Alpha dies. While the production type Big Daddies have a much better relationship with the Little Sisters - the physical bond constraint is removed, so they can defend literally any Little Sister in Rapture.

There are numerous theories about Tenenbaum, albeit no one knows for certain what happened to her.

Thank you guys. It's all starting to make more sense now... does anyone happen to have a clue as to my first question by any chance? I almost feel like I am giving 2k too much credit when I assume that they would create such a connection between Bioschock 1 and 2 right way, but if they really did plan that comparison all along (I am referring to question 1) that would be pretty impressive. Did anyone else think about question one like I did?

Sofia Lamb had absolutely no involvement with the splicers singing religious songs and stuff in the first BioShock, because she started the religious cult "The Rapture Family" only after the death of Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine, when she took over the city. What sparked the "religious insanity" in splicers was probably Frank Fontaine's smuggling operation. Andrew Ryan prohibited any religions in Rapture. However in the Smugglers' Hideout (as well as other places throughout Rapture) you can see many smuggled in bibles and crucifixes.

Hearing the whole WYK conditioning makes me laugh because Lamb views it as some super scientific, legendary, impossible to understand type of thing but its really just would you kindly. Just hearing that audio diary and the way she sounds so perplexed about it makes me laugh :D

Well it's still pretty Hardcore science to programme someone to do ANYTHING you say just from a simple phrase....

It took a lot of Science etc.

She was a very sick and twisted woman. An extreme altruist, who hates the Self and doesn't care about free will. The exact polar opposite of Andrew Ryan. And to think she would actually make her own daughter a mindless slave like Jack... What I like about BioShock is that there are no "bad guys". Their ways may seem wrong to us, but I'm sure they just wanted to make the world a better place and were pretty dam' close to doing so.
