View Full Version : Begging for some form of modding tools

This is a short, to the point plea to 2K.
Please release some form of modding tool/kit for the single player campaign. The INI files are not nearly comprehensive enough since they removed quite of few of them. All I want is the ability to further balance the game and increase the difficulty. I was able to tinker with Bioshock 1 well enough simply through the INI files but they've reduced the amount of configuration available for me to change. I want to be able to change security camera reaction times, health of the foes (and not just damage resistance), weapon mechanics (like requiring the player to invest points to use certain weapons), etc.
So please, 2K, allow me this much.

Yeah, but it seems very inappropriate here. Mod tools are AWESOME for SP games. They can do everything from adding in a plasmid/weapon/improved enemy (that electric thug splicer that is oddly absent from B2), to basically making a whole new game.
I just wish I had the money to make a decent computer that could run these games so I could also partake in the moding fun.

The SDK tools technically already exist. Its based off of the unreal engine. All you need to do is figure out how to set the editor up for bioshock and get rid of the stuff that 2K probably puts in place to prevent people from modding the game.
I would love to make maps for bioshock. It would be fun making unexplored parts of rapture.

Modding tools would be awesome. Not only for the players, but for the game itself. Mod's can extend the games shelf-life by a huge margin, especially in multi-player. Some of the better developers go out of there way to help mods, such as Blizzard and Valve.
Alas, I doubt they will ever see the light of day for Bioshock 2.

I'm learning how to use Source SDK. Pretty fun stuff making CSS maps. I could see this for Bioshock 2.

I think this is what they're trying to avoid, so we have to buy some DLC.
I really just want to tinker with the game balance and release mod for Bioshock 2... the reduction in useful ini files has prevented me from doing that effectively.

Yeah we need the tool.
If 2k are not willing to enable pad support or provide anything we want, at least they could indirectly help us do what we want by ourselves..

lol if this was the case, their DLC should be of really poor quality, again using the oblivion and fallout 3 as example
if u want to use the xbox controler, u should search for xpadder...

I don't want to talk trash on 2k, after all I'm asking them for something they're not obligated to do. I just wish they would throw us a bone. :(

2K just pop in and say "Yeah sure, just not right now because we want to milk the DLC first."
P.S. I want modding tools to fix all of the absurd mistakes all over Bioshock2. There is a plant in a pot in Siren alley, the fern leaves are clipping out the bottom of the pot. There is another place I can see the dripping water model was placed too high and its sticking out into the ocean. The WORST I have found so far was on the last level I believe, there are white hand-prints sticking on top of shallow flowing water... Yeah someone needs to get fired, and I needs to fix my aesthetics.
