View Full Version : Save games problem and GFWL profile download problem

Lotus

Ok well, first off, I am unable to download a profile while in game. I log in to the profile, it says it is downloading, and then it goes on to downloading an update. At that point, it says "Can't download update. Make sure you are connected to internet etc..." and "0X80072751". Every time I try to log in to a profile, these events occur.

So I make an Offline accout. Easy enough. However, it appears that if any saving occurs, the game will crash at the drop of a hat. After the walking in the ocean part and the loading screen, a few seconds into the level, it crashes. When trying to open the game again, if I even click during the legal words part, it crashes, says "bioshock.exe has encountered problem needs to close" etc, whatever. If I log out of my offline profile, then I get the "sign out has occured returning to main menu". That gets me to the main menu. I can click around, nothing happens. So I click Single Player, log into offline account, it then crashes.

So I find the saves, delete the ones not in folders, and load up Bioshock again. I can click and skip up to the main menu. So apparently, the save games are causing problems. Has anyone had problems with save games, and if so did you find a way to fix it?

If I save the email and password while logging in, and log in again after everything fails, in the window where it shows all the profiles, my profile is just a blank bar witha blank profile picture. No name, nothing. It says my profile was not completely downloaded, that I should delete my profile and download it again.

I will post dxddiag and error messages in a second.

Kleetus

Not the game directory, but the Bioshock 2 folder in the Documents folder.

That's where your saves are stored.

Wow I think that actually worked! Thank you so much!! Lol, at first I thought you were trolling, thinking that you meant delete like the program file or something, but you just meant the one in documents, which held the saves. Well I can save and load just fine now, thanks a bunch :D

Bump. Still can't download profile. My brother called Live tech support, I guess they said something about UPnP.

Are you able to log into the standalone client without an issue?

Here is the link if you do not already have it: http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/live/Pages/livejoin.aspx

If you have a router you need to enable UPnP for GFWL to download your profile.

Lotus
02-17-2010, 12:05 PM
Yes I am able to log into the standalone client.

And I do not think I have a router. Just a Verizon Wireless Mobile broadband modem.

Do you have any third party Antivirus or firewalls suites running in the background? If you do I would advised setting them to a low profile option or disabling them temorarily to see if this helps alleviate the connection error you have been receiving.

Also i'm not to sure about your connection method is there any possibility that you could hook it up to a cable modem? Please let me know either way.

Well all I have is AVG free, don't know what to disable there but I will try.

And I have no other internet to speak of, besides dial up on another computer.

Lotus

Can't seem to disable anything with avg, unless someone can tell me what?
Only other firewall is windows firewall, I hope o,O

My brother allowed GFWL through Windows firewall, but that didn't work.

Tech Chris

For AVG try just disabling the resident shield temporarily. To do this open up the AVG control panel and select Tools > Advanced Settings > Resident Shield then disable resident shield.

Lotus
02-17-2010, 02:03 PM
Tried that and it didn't work. Also restarted computer, resident shield still off, still nothing.

Is this something to do with my internet do you think?

Tech Chris
02-17-2010, 02:21 PM
It could be your internet connection but have a try of this first

Please fully disable any background software on startup by using msconfig (please see below)

- Click on the start menu
- Click on run (Hold the windows key and tap R for Vista)
- Type in the following MSCONFIG and select ok
- Click on the startup tab
- Select "disable all"
- Also click on the services tab
- Choose hide all Microsoft services
- Then select "disable all"
- Click on apply and then close
- Restart your computer
- Select do not show this message again if a popup box appears and select ok

There may be temp files causing the problem to occur also. To remove your temp files please try the following steps:

- Click on the start menu
- Click on run (Hold the windows key and tap R for Vista)
- Type in the following %temp% (including the percent signs) and select ok
- Remove all files and folders within the directory that appears by clicking Edit and select all and pressing your delete key on the key board.
- Please remove any files from recycle bin

Please try updating again. If the problem re-occurs it is likely that your mobile modem has nat or upnp problems.

Bummer, that didn't work. What now?

Oh, and I ran the Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool, and it said UPnP is not supported.

Oh, and I ran the Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool, and it said UPnP is not supported.

eek....im not sure if UPnPless is an option with GFWL....had the same issue till i finally turned mine on....i had a friend who was able to get it to work without UPnP though....ill see if he can be of some help

soundcreepy
02-17-2010, 03:00 PM
do you know if your modem has any kind of security built into it?....i know you said you don't have a router but sometimes modems can actually have built in firewalls or anti-viruses that block certain services

Tech Chris

If you are able to forward ports on your dongle/modem/router it my be worthwhile trying to forward the following port numbers:

– UDP 88
– UDP 3074
– UDP 53
– TCP 53
– TCP 443
– TCP 3074
– TCP 80

Please let me know if this helps, If you are unsure if this is possible with your setup try calling Verizon to see if they offer this kinf of support with their mobile Broadband modem.

To soundcreepy:
As far as I know, it doesn't. I'd call customer support however it's 3am est so that would be rude :p I am not sure how to check though, besides customer support.

soundcreepy
02-17-2010, 03:36 PM
Verizon should have tech support 24/7....or at least search their website....any way....in your web browser could you type in your ip address and hit enter?...it should go to a control panel type thing for your modem

Lotus
02-17-2010, 03:46 PM
Well I am not sure if I am able to forward ports on this thing. I guess the next step in this friggen odyssey (lmao) is to call Verizon CS tomorrow. I have the number and everything... joy. Thanks a lot Chris, you're very very helpful. And thanks too mr soundcreepy :) Gnight to both of you.

gnight lotus....ill try and ask around at work if anyone knows of a solution (I work as a wal-mart electronics associate and work with Verizon....but i have more experience on the phone side than the broadband side :( )

Lotus
02-17-2010, 03:55 PM
I put my ip address in ie but nothing came up >_>
Thanks for going to ask at work though :D I really appreciate it.
Ok gnight for real now.

That's where your saves are stored.

its just the quick saves that need deleting

Tech Paul

Yes I am able to log into the standalone client.

And I do not think I have a router. Just a Verizon Wireless Mobile broadband modem.

What happens if you try to run the game once you are logged into GFWL?

soundcreepy
02-17-2010, 09:07 PM
i hope ill be able to get something for you lotus....i think my verizon rep comes in today so i might be able to help :) :) anyway....what paul suggested might work but i believe both programs run separately so thats why you can log into the standalone....there is a free game you can get from the standalone called tinkerer(?) that uses GFWL....if your able to log into that it might be bio 2 (might) and not GFWL

Lotus
02-18-2010, 12:43 AM
To Paul:
I seem unable to get to Bioshock2 from the GFWL client. I go to downloads but it's not there. I know I activated the game on the account but it's not there. Then again I have no other games for GFWL so I don't know where they would be lol, but shouldn't they be there?

I'm downloading "Tinker" atm so I'll see what happens with that. I'm gonna call Verizon today and ask about UPnP, see what's up with that, and ask about any security my modem might have. Hope I get some results.

Edit: Oh, and port forwarding.

Lotus
02-18-2010, 01:03 AM
Ok I downloaded Tinker... when I try to sign in on that game, it says downloading profile... it then says cannot connect to Live, and it signs me off of my internet!! Wtf! It says: "Can't connect to live. A connection to the network is not available. If you are using a PPP connection, make sure you establish that connection before starting the game."

It showed a different box the first time though... I guess I'll restart the game and get the first one.

Edit: I restarted game, same info.

Edit2: Ok different box this time. Says "can't connect to live. You may be attempting to connect with an incompatable network card. Make sure your network drivers are up to date and try again."

Lotus

In case this helps:

When I click network information in the home thing it says this:

Net Adapter - Verizon Wireless - VZAccess
Internet IP Address - Not signed in
Local IP Address - ... Numbers
System Link Address - Not active
PC Account - Numbers
UPnP - Not signed in

Edit: Sorry about all this posting :p More info tho!
When I go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Advanced Settings and look under adapters and bindings, it only shows Local Area Connection, Local Area Connection 2, and [Remote Access Connections], the last one not being available. My internet connection, however, is under "Dial-up" in Network Connections (I don't know why, it's not exactly dial up, is it?)

soundcreepy
02-18-2010, 02:31 AM
well...because you arn't able to log in with tinkerer we know its GFWL and not Bio 2.....still havn't talked to my rep (comes in at 2...its 1 here)....but anything i find out ill let you know asap

on the bottom of your verizon modem does it give any kind of model number?

just as a side question....is it still crashing when you select an offline profile?

Lotus
02-18-2010, 03:06 AM
Um well on the back is a bar code some numbers... it doesn't say model number, or I know that it's a UM150.

And yes I can play with an offline account. However I would like achievements and multiplayer :p

Well I talked to Verizon tech support and the guy said that gfwl is probably trying to make a connection, but the only way to make a connection is with verizon access manager, the program that connects me. So basically I need a land line to use in order to download everything. Which means I'll have to haul my whole pc out to someone's house to use their internet :p Which I have done before... Shucks darn.

02-18-2010, 05:25 AM
are there any other GFLW games that you owned? Try to see if you are able to download your profile from other GFWL Games. Also check if you are able to Launch Internet Explorer and surf using Internet Explorer in Microsoft websites and Xbox Live websites...See if you are able to log into your account in the following website below

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/default.htm

Also Ensure that you are able to do windows update from your Start--> All Programs--> Windows Update.

Sometimes its not your LAN, but its the Microsoft Internet Explorer Configuration.
