ok, this is pretty useless to know, but have you noticed that in the beginning cutscene, Jack holds his cigarette and wallet in exactly the electro-bolt hand position. Here are the two pictures for comparison.

I can barely see the right hand in the second picture you provided. But it probably was a side effect of thinking of having a good smoke while injecting himself with Electro Bolt. (While his DNA was adapting for the first time.) :D
Almost similar. But I think I see some differences:
1. Electro bolt thumb is slightly angled, but picture thumb is pressed against wallet.
2. Index finger knuckle for electro bolt is angled, wallet knuckle is not.
3. Electro bolt wrist is slightly angled upward, picture wrist is slightly angled downward.
Eh, maybe it's just me. :o

Interesting, I've always thought the hand seemed a bit strange there but never reflected about it. Probably they used the plasmid hand in want of anything better, and the effort required to create something. A bit like they use splicer models for most of the main characters.

looks fairly different to me but i see that he's always got a claw hand going on.

Yeah, that's the only difference it seems. His hand is more relaxed when holding the cigarette.
