One thing that would put this game over the top is a future level editor for online games or offline. Possibly after the game is released. If any of you have ever played Thief: The Dark Project or Thief 2: The Metal Age, there are thousands of free fan missions available for it now. It's incredible really.

What do you guys think? If not for Bioshock 2 then Bioshock 3 :P? Not that it has even been announced but just saying.

hmm, I don't think that that would fit Bioshock at all. That's more of a Little Big Planet thing. Which on that note, I would love it if Little Big Planet got a Bioshock level pack, and costumes. I would so buy that!

If LittleBigPlanet got a BioShock pack, my mind would literally explode!
I'd start to play that game again!

I'm with you on that one!

I agree with RTM on this one, I dont really think that a level creator would really fit into Bioshock. I do think it would be awesome if they could pull it off, but I think it would be pretty hard to do it well with a game as detailed as bioshock and, I assume, Bioshock II. Well see though, maybe they could put it in for Bioshock III.

And like, wouldn't it take FOREVER to make your own level?

RTM

And really, it just doesn't make sense for them to put a create your own level in Bioshock. Bioshock is a RPG, FPS, not anything at all like Little Big Planet. Though, I really see Bioshock as a really interactive book more than anything else, due to it's AWESOME story. Way to go 2K on that one.

Why not on consoles? I don't see one not. Halo 3's Forge Mode, for example, works just as good.

Although, in BioShock, it wouldn't work. If I remember correctly, they said the multiplayer would reveal things about the game itself. A level editor...I don't know it fits into that fact, but it feels like one way it wouldn't work.

well the console version of farcry 2 had a creator pack and
it felt good. no mouse needed. it bothers me that console gamers always
say the pc version of a game will be the superior version.
im no low-life who sits on the comptuer 24/7 and brags on how good
a computer can run games. thats the only thing a pc fanboy
would talk about. btw i wasent dissing pc gamers, only pc fanboys.
i was just making a point. anyways, pc: yes, console: yes.
i mean they both play videogames! whats the difference!

Well, the difference between Bioshock and something like Halo 3 or Farcry 2 is one game is ALL indoors and the others are not.

So what exactly would you be able to edit in a detailed, closed-in environment? Let's face it, Halo maps aren't very detailed like Bioshock.

The difference is that the PC is much more managable and its the same thing they use to make the game. Easier to make an editor for something they practically already have.

I think one reason everyone thinks Level Editors are PC only is because there's 20x more buttons to assign different actions to.

But is it required?

In normal circumstances, yes. Alot of map editors make use of every single key so that you can get the desired appearance. Take the G.E.C.K. (FO3 Map Editor) for example, it uses quite a few keys... eh, I'll just stop here...

You know what series had a delightful multiplayer level creator?
Time Splitters.

Bioshock is too complex and unique for a level creator. So much care was taken with the design, it is so complex and beautiful. It just would not work.

On something lame and soppy, IMO, like Little Big Planet you can let people make levels, sure. But that thing only has that, it does not do anything else.

Letting people make levels is silly anyway IMO. No one can make anything halfway decent when the pros slaved over the real thing for months.

I'd disagree with that- over the years, I've played some pretty epic maps on FPSs and RTSs. That's because, quite often, you have an entire community within the gaming one that spends months creating detailed maps.

I think however that, unlike most games, BioShock MP wouldn't benefit from a Level Creator. Not many would have the patience that the developers do to create the creepy, art-deco settings we kno from BS1 and that will likely crop up in BS2.

Like I said there is this utility for level editing on Thief 1 and 2 called DromEd. People have made thousands of levels on it, some at the professional quality level. So good that several members of the community have found jobs in the industry.

Complex to you but not so to others. It would be interesting if something was created for Bioshock 3.

Also if you're not convinced about people being able to do professional quality work check these pages out.

As for the whole level editor thing it could be single player as well. Bioshock 3 with level editor anyone? Just a thought.

Cheers.:)

I was just thinking of that screenshot in the BioShock PC folder that had a "BioShock Level Editor" or something along the lines of that. It made me wonder, why did they scrap that in the first place?

Personally I see IF they place a level editor of some sorts in, it would be very interesting. What could come out of it? Would MP levels strictly be limited to the sea? Could popular MP maps in other games be turned into Rapture Warzones?

Single player levels could also be great. I know a lot of time and care would be placed on them. They don't have to be creepy, they could look for new ways to reimagine the BioShock gameplay with unique puzzles and such.

Personally, I believe there isn't any limits if they did make a level creator/editor. User generated content is usually pretty cool.

You mean this? (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/skullhead122/Beta/edsplash.bmp) I don't see how a level editor could work in BioShock 2, considering the details like pipes, particles, lighting effects, spawnpoints for BD/LS/Splicers, etc.

I'd rather not find maps where the person deleted everything on the map, put player spawn(s), then surrounded the player spawn(s) with high-alert Big Daddy spawns.

bioshock 2 could easily come with and editor
since its based on unreal engine 3, i guess they just have to include the unreal editor 4.0

in fact, the addition of unreal editor with the game (pc version) would only increase biosock 2 longevity
take unreal 1 for example
its a single player game from 98 (or 97), but to this day people are still developing high quality full single players mods

Very true, one of my favorite mods was Infiltration on UT1999.
Unreal Editor has increased the longevity of Unreal and Unreal Tournament, but at the same time, Bioshock actually has a coherent story that I wouldn't want to see bastardized by crappy player mods. The multiplayer mode in Bioshock 2 is supposed to add to the story and allowing players to modify it would be a bad idea. As for those who want a level editor on a console, unfortunately Unreal Editor would grind to a halt on a console.
