You know, I can't believe this vital piece of information has yet to be revealed. So that, at least for people who use Vista, the number of "will it run on my PC" or "how well will it run" could probably be cut back dramatically. That's the whole point of the Experience Index, so that with one simple number people can quickly judge if their system can run Bioshock well or not.
Would one of the devs at Irrational in Australia be willing to answer this question, so at least we have a rough idea, before the demo and the full game is released?
I also find it ironic that after Microsoft touted the Experience Index number so much, none of the games listed on the Games for Windows site list an Index number. Duh!

I'll betcha it's like 5.0 like most of the DX10 games (Shadowrun, Lost Planet)

Yeah MS were prancing about praising the awesome gaming features for a while. One thing they were spouting on about was...wait for it!... The "Games Folder"!! It has shortcuts to you GAMES in it! Wow, what a feature.
There was a MS rep saying why crysis was so perfect for vista and he mentioned the games folder... lol.
Basicaly that had a lot of really weak ideas that didnt pan out. I think they realised that they sounded really, really stupid promoting these features and just gave up on them.

Basically their charging PC gamers for stuff they usually get for free anyway.
LIVE doesn't support PC players... It supports Xbox players who own PCs that don't use their PCs anyway except for saying why Xbox > PS3 + Wii + PC, and checking their new gamerscore!
Which is kinda dumb when you think about it... actually, you don't even need to think about it.

Yup, from a gamer's perspective, the only reason to dish out for vista is DX10

Actually, I think most of them were good ideas. It's just that they're not exactly earth-shattering bullet points on the features list, that are going to get people to buy Vista.
But it is rather nice to have one area dedicated to listing all your games, and which has links to the publsihers' sites and updates for your games. And the experience index is an idiot-proof (or is it) way of determining whether a game will run on your computer or not.
They're nice ideas, but not really enough to get people to rush out to buy Vista. But it doesn't matter anyway, because in a couple of years Vista will become dominant anyway, and XP will become the next 98.

They don't charge for anything that you usually get for free. The free silver service includes all of the features of multiplayer games today, the fee-based gold membership just adds matchmaking (server browser and multiplayer is still free for silver), the ability to earn online achievements, and the ability to play cross platform against people on 360 (playing against other PC gamers is free with silver). The only features you have to pay to get aren't available to begin with so you aren't paying for things you normally get for free. I think a lot of people don't really completely understand that.

Well not really. Halo 2 for the PC works with Live, allowing players to gain achievements, game scores, and play against other PC players (not sure if its 360 too, but I doubt it highly). I don't own a 360 and never plan to, but I now have a game score and Halo 2 listed as a game that I own. And yes, you STILL have to have a gold membership to get whatever perks they get for the PC and Live...
I do wish they would implement more of Live on the PC so that the two environments basically are one in the same. It would be one crazy marriage.
