No culture with greece?

I just played a multiplayer game as Greece, and some things really bugged me because as far as I know they were bugs.

1. I didn't get any culture at all in my capital, which was very strange. Surely that isn't supposed to happen?
2. I never got the medieval bonus "More great people". Very annoying and in the same category as the first, the culture seemed completely messed up.

Anyone knows why this happened?

i think that the palace is supposed to produce a little bit of culture, which is doubled with monarchy. as for the more great people bonus, did it actually say that you had reached the medieval era? and it doesn't actually just give you great people, if you were wondering.

Palaces normally do produce culture, however one of the effects of democracy besides being unable to declare war is that your palace doesn't produce culture at all. Think about it, they've given up their ruler and unlike the other governments its run by the people, not a single ruler so you don't actually have a need for a palace as a cultural focal point. >_>; Just build temples and you'll be able to take advantage of culture and your medieval bonus.

I second that. Which is why I don't play with them often. There are other hidden bonuses that I will not disclose also. I will let you venture and find them. However they are not my favorate race for culture. The English would be number 1 culture race and the French would be second only because Cathedral can be destroyed.

it is frustrating. i tried experimented with switching out of democracy for the first 15 or so turns that i build units and grow. probably not a good idea since you have 2 turns of anarchy for it. it would make more sense if you were planning on attacking someone. once you get temples the more great people perk should allow you to catch up with the jones's.

With Greece I stay in demo at the beginning except for a walk-in against an imprudent player. But I Beeline toward COL (no need for BW or HBR) and switch to it for a while, then go back to demo. I see player not building settlers in Athens, but I usually use it as a settler pump till I have 4-5 cities. I think it's with the Greece that getting the Ark is the most useful because without it you can be flipped by anybody until a long while.
Beelining to COL gives you alphabet quick. I usually rush a library if I have decent gold because with hoplite you are safe for a long while and I never rush at the beginning with them.

Thanks, I thought it was something like that but it couldn't find it written as a con anywhere for democracy. As for the second question, shouldn't I get the right amount of culture pts for a great person regardless of my current state? I didnät get any points at all, or how does it work?

you only get culture points from certain things.

palace - non democracy government
temples and cathedrals - non communist government
wonders
tech bonuses - religion and printing press gives +1 per city
silk
settling great people

probably not the most complete list so please everyone correct me and add to the list but this gives you the general idea of how you get culture.

i thnk thts rite however GP produce 3? culture but Great Artists add 50% to culture production temple= 6 + 50% (3)= 9
