When i begin a new game in bioshock, the beginning cinematic flashes from black to the animation. it stops when i start playing, or the cinematic where Jack swims to the surface begins.

Some possibly helpful info:

using Windows Vista

running through Steam

i have a quad core 2.8 gHz and 8gb ram, so i hope that's not the problem

and i understand that it is a film technique for every other frame to be black, but it should be fast enough that i don't see it, this is going relatively slowly.

so far it has only done this in the first cinematic, but i am not very far in the game yet, so i can't rule out the possibility of more glitches.

Can you post what kind of graphics card you have in your system? Also is it using the latest driver? And Bioshock is not crashing as you say you are still able to play, just you don't know if there will be more issues?

To find out what kind of graphics card you have hold the Windows key and press R then in the Run dialog that pops up type "dxdiag" without the quotes and press Enter. Then in dxdiag under the Display tab there is a Device section with a Name field. The Name field is what kind of graphics card you have - please post that.

no sorry it stopped now, i don't know why. but if you want to know, i have nVidia 9800 and i'm not sure when i last updated the driver.

but i have another problem. when i use Alt-Enter to make it fullscreen (sometimes an automatic updater interrupts my game making it windowed), i get some wierd shadow problem. i can't reallt explain, i'll try to get a screenshot, but when i switch to a weapon other than the shotgun there is a shadow where the shotgun would normally be. there is also environment shadows, basically in the shape of the place where i was before i hit Alt-Enter.

so when i look around it is blurry except for the place my shotgun would be and the parts where the environment should have been.
