I think it's really become too politicised. The argument referred to above just basically turned into an all out scrap over who believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible and who doesn't, complete with scripture quoted to support the various sides of the argument. One guy who was arguing for not believing in homosexuality said that he had chosen not to be gay and basically implied that it was because his understanding of certain scripture says it's wrong.

Having struggled for years with my own sexuality, I can see both sides of the debate. Those who are gay or feel that they are meant to be the other gender, every fiber of their being tells them 'This is who I am, I can't be anything else'. Growing up in the church, I literally felt torn between what the
Bible said and what my self-image was. It wasn't easy (huge understatement), but I got through it (the fact that I'm a logically driven person helped a lot). I changed.

As a Christian, I agree that homosexuality is wrong (wait before you flambe me), but I understand that people who gay can't see how they could change, let alone why they should. Like I said, to them, that is who they are. We're not here to bible bash them (how I hate that term) with the 'turn or burn' message. We are to love them, and pray that God will work in their lives.
Often homosexuality is way down on the list of things that he wants to deal with; while it's the most visible, other issues like unforgiveness, greed, anger, and envy may need to be dealt with first.

I changed.When you say 'other gender' do you mean it as in the same as being gay or as in the 'identity confusion' sense? Because you know sex and gender are different things. Gender-labels= man/woman, sex-labels=male/female. Are you happy with your sexuality as it is? I imagine if the Bible said it was okay, then you might pursue a same sex relationship? Or you'd maybe prefer to pursue a same-sex relationship if the Bible said it was okay?

Personally I've been thinking about using intersex websites to try and find someone who can fulfill my emotional needs (I've not experienced 'intimate relations' for almost six and a half years. I'm waiting for someone who can fulfill my emotional needs, but it's difficult because I barely leave the house.)

iirc you wrote about feeling full of anger when you were a teenager. Was that maybe something to do with it?

I hated hitting puberty, because I didn't become the shape I wanted to be. That's when I really began to be depressed.

In England religion is less politicised. You can be gay and be a Christian.

Yes I believe in homosexuality, just as much as I believe in blue skies or green grass. Some people just have an atraction towards men.

Hmmm, apparently I'm homosexual then. This comes as a bit of a surprise :o

I agree with you Hatesink, too politicized. Another issue getting the same treatment is global warming. There's strong evidence on both sides of the argument, but should we really continue to rely on oil supplied by unstable nations, and continue smogging up the air, just because it may be a natural warming trend?

V---I own a ☺☺☺☺☺, actually two. Does that count?

Well Raveness did mention she was married on one o these here posts so that's probably the member that's often 'attached' to her. If not then somebody's been naughty.

As for Hatesink's question, while I do enjoy being both ridiculous and antiquated (was considering getting a monocle because only my right eye needs glasses), I agree with Ravesink on the none of my business.

I have no problem with whoever somebody else likes as long as what they do involves mutual consent and it doesn't mean that someone is cheating on me.

Cooties.

Back off topic, I enjoy good firewood. I hand split a lot of my own wood and have a very clean-burning fireplace (I'm typing in front of it as I write this). My grandparents had lived in the same house for a zillion years and as they grew in age, they got away from wood fires to just leaving the furnace on. When they moved out of the house and my mother and I were prepping the house for sale, there was a huge shed full of super-seasoned oak. Seriously, the driest wood I've ever seen that wasn't rotten. It burns soooo nicely. Whenever I make a fire, I can usually identify the individual pieces of firewood, which brings back a pleasant memory. Here's what's in the stove this evening...

Giant sequoia. An old acquaintance worked at a state park that is famous for having unusually large trees. They're allowed a little quota of wood that's taken down by park maintenance (diseased, infested, etc.) to take home for firewood. HUGE pieces and some knots that'll last for two days. Splitting them was the first of many times that I got to see California Prionus Beetle grubs that were over twice the size of my thumb. I was totally grossed out, but the tropical fish ate well for a week.

Poplar. One evening a friend at an apartment complex called up and said there was free firewood to be had - we just had to come get it. One of the adult poplars in front of the complex was found to have termites and was promptly dropped, and they just wanted it out of there. It was around 11:30pm and there was a foot of snow on the ground but the roads were somewhat plowed. It was totally green and weighed a lot. That was the first time I really broke in the 4WD on my truck. Poplar, by the way, is a real pain to split unless it's completely seasoned (which took a few years).

Oak. Tree fell across the driveway so I'm on the case. I'm cutting it up and I notice a pretty thick vine growing up the tree. No problem, but as I get towards the top of the tree, I notice the leaves on the vine look familiar, sets of three with a reddish hue: poison oak (to which I'm a bit sensitive). Now I had been blowing this sawdust all over the place and I probably only had a couple of hours before I turned into a big pink raisin so off I went to the hospital to get a Cortizone shot. Best $100 I ever spent - didn't even turn red. This poison oak plant was seriously around 20 feet tall and maybe 2+ inches in diameter at the base.

Buckeye. The kindeling to start the fire was dead buckeye trim. Once it dies, it becomes very dry and burns like a champ. This particular batch my fiancée and I gathered within the last couple of days on a particularly nice afternoon when we were pruning the trees in the yard.

@v.dog— personally I don't really know what's going on with me. I think I might be intersex.

Here's some scripture on the topic in question (these were posted with regards homosexuality). I copied these from the argument at the website I was talking about above (the place where I posted the question and where the argument took place).

In speaking about "protecting the sanctity of marriage" Jesus said:

"Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way.
"And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."
The disciples said to him, "If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry"
But He said to them, "Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given. For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it." (Matt 19: 8-12)

Jesus' statement, there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, I believe, shows that he believed that there were those who were born with the predisposition to not be attracted to the other sex. In other words, the eunuchs were in fact homosexuals.

To my knowledge the Bible does not state that homosexuality is in itself wrong, that it is harmful, unkind, destructive, unloving, dishonest, unjust, etc. We should expect, however, some sex acts to be condemned only when they do include these other wrongs: abusiveness, exploitation, hurtfulness, etc, just as heterosexual acts would be forbidden for these same reasons.

Thus, I believe that immoral behavior is condemned, not homosexual behavior in itself.

Here's a link that was posted to that argument (I've not read the info. linked to (I'm taking medication that's making me extremely drowsy so it would be difficult for me to do so at the moment)).

http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_bibc3.htm

Personally, my advice to you is be true to yourself because God made you what you are, so be true to yourself so as to be true to God. Don't try to please the world, seek to please God.

Here's one of my favourite Bible passages:

Psalm 139

O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.

I assume your talking about keyboard configurations. I know QWERTY's used by english keyboards but Whats Dvorak?

Hatesink
04-19-2007, 03:56 PM
Qwerty was designed to be awkward so as to slow people down so that the early mechanical typewriters didn't get jammed. dvorák is a different typing scheme that has the vowels and the most-used consonants on the home-keys. It's about ten times easier to use and much much faster than qwerty.

I've trained myself in and out of dvorák about three times now, this time I think I'm just going to stick with Dvorák, because it just feels like I'm all fingers and thumbs typing with qwerty.

They need skilled people. Nothing surprising there. Peace Corps however doesn't look like it will even consider you if you don't have a 4 year degree (they just specified 4 year, not even a particular field). So somebody who can't afford college but still wants to help out...can't?

Hatesink
04-19-2007, 10:13 PM
Nothing medical (not nursing or anything like that), it was market research interviewing. You book work on a weekly basis and it tends to dry up if you're not consistent with your hours and good at interviewing (cold calling). Also, the work just drops off over summer (leaving very few positions) and I needed to keep my job to help my then girlfriend get her Visa (we had to be living together for her to qualify). The day the notification of her visa being granted came through I pulled the bedclothes over my head never to return to the job. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) we split up a little while after that and I moved back home.

Are they called 'the simulacrum'?

Oh you mean you were reffering to something else, er...whoops. Sorry this is just one of my favourite old-shcool games of all time, I couldnt resist.

In the game simulacrum's are kind of robots that look like your teammates, only when you get near to them or shoot them they explode. The problem is if you shoot your teammates by accident they tend to get a little bit annoyed. The way your meant to distinquish them from your friends is that they say random phrases in an attempt to appear human. Things like "They're Everywhere!" when nobody's near them, or "Frogblast the Ventcore!".

I was using it in the wider sense of the term, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

That reminds me a little bit of the adventure game Blade Runner where you had to run those weird tests to find out if the characters you were questioning were replicant's. Those sequences were pretty cool.

Bullets work great in marathon as well. Well that is as long as you don't mind everyone trying to murder you. But considering they tended to only have pistols, while you had fusion pistols, flamethrowers and dual shotguns. it wasnt much of a problem, although it wasn't entirely pleasent hearing their agonising screams whilst their flesh melted away.

It's funny. I've read a lot of reviews and played a lot of games, but Marathon is one I don't think I've ever really heard of. Is it worth playing?

If your referring to the other pictures they're chapter art. And yes Rise Of The Triad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhAZTIXKdmA) is awesome (even if i can't play it anymore :( ) . There's just something so magical about those old games, like Duke Nukem 3D (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opUWFt5XWLc&mode=related&search=).

I ordered an original copy of SS1 years back. Still on the 5 1/2" discs. Even hooked up a drive and played it. :D

First game I ever bought myself though would be Daggerfall. First pc game I was exposed to was mom bringing home a copy of good ole Wolfenstein 3D that some of the guys at her work had. :D

I'm number 5 (number of posts) and climbing!

The best footage of marathon I can find, is a speedrun HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIt1_yn18zs) and a higher quality mod video HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgzJPCt3MHM&mode=related&search=)
about 2 minutes 30 seconds into the mod video you see him shooting simulacrums, notice how they're saying "i love you man" :D The simulacrums are a little more subtle in the original game.

I'm learning to type using the dvorak typing scheme, and I've been typing out these ridiculously random non-sensical sentances all day and naight for the last day or so.

Stuff like:

Gina Esposito supposed that the signpost in Spain said STOP

Tess Sutton notates the tenuous state that southeast Houston has seen

Ethan Ness attests to these Tennessee Senate OSHA statutes to shun Utah

The idea that nineteen studious Dadaists assisted Einstein is asinine

...and it's getting really old.

I hated so much playing on my Apple II/e and my Coleco Vision and my Atari 2600, I wish I could've just skipped over them, aswell as NES/SNES/Genesis and gone straight on through to what we have now. That way I would own super hard.

What am I doing here? It's become habit.

I'm bored.

I'm too tired to do anything worthwhile.

I'm beginning to feel depressed.

I think I need to sleep.

I'm bored of these seemingly unending exercises.

I wish something good would happen.

I wish I believed in love.

I wish I had a mate.

She (a mate) would know me.

It's summer here.

The women are beautiful.

I wish I could write poems instead of wise-cracks, strap-lines and gags.

What was I expecting— chimes?

Why are nobody really friends.

Why do I get so lonely and bored that I have to do stuff like this?

I'll be finished with the weights soon.

Why is it like this?

What will I do?

Who am I, and who will I be?

What am I, and where will I go?

Why? Can't they just let me go?

Is this a poem?

It has no metaphor

It's just some patterned speech

Maybe the poem is the metaphor

Nonsensical, useless, pointless, empty...

2000, most likely. when you reach it you have the power to virtual happy-slap noobs.It's weird the way they leave you alone if you've got a higher post count and/or earlier join date. I learned about that kind of personality in Psychology, but I just can't remember the term for it. I think it might be something to do with authoritarianism.

I wonder what the title might be at 2000 (don't loot at me— I'm done inflating my postcount;))

Maybe they think you got this far by killing off competition, hmm that doesnt really make sense. Ah well they're usually pretty stupid anyway.They're conditioned to accept authority, wherever they perceive it. The thing is they'll attack you if they perceive you as having stepped out of line (so sometimes it seems you can't even start a conversation without being attacked). I think there's a good chance that psycopathy plays a part also (I've counted one so far on this forum). They seem able to identify with each other and team up to enjoy their 'sport'— something they can't do in the real world, basically because of geography (making it difficult for them to encounter and interact with each other) and the fact that that kind of behaviour isn't tolerated outside of internet forums.

Truthfully, I don't know— I'm not qualified to say. My ability only really extends to identifying abnormal psyches (those that are apparent), and even then it's a bit shaky (well, kind of). I studied psychology and sociology for my access certificate (and in my spare time), but studied writing (and a little film) when I got to uni

ok,yeah its a double post:eek: : Naughty splicer!
But i reckon mr hygenicsink:p has had this space for too long!-So I'm gonna ramble a bit.....
I started work on a new album today,its a bit daunting,especially since ive got less than four months to get it done,then its out on the road to promote it,whats even scarier is that I'm gonna record at home for the first time,doing all the tech stuff myself-what struck me today,is how rusty i am.
I've hardly played for nearly two years and my fingers were screamimg bloody murder after an hour,not the most auspicous of starts.So anyway,Two new songs which leaves seven to write-oh god-I'm screwed!-but i dont wanna sell out and do another compilation,got to get my head around all this tech stuff.the writing bit should be easy enough,my heads been buzzing all week,and creativity isnt something i wanna turn off,its like air to me,but here i am looking into an abyss of tech,and I'm wondering if I'm ever gonna get a product out of it and even more important are people gonna want it?
yeah moneys got to be a consideration,I'm naff all good at nowt else,gotta earn a crust!-and BIOSHOCK is not gonna pay the rent-I NEVER THOUGHT i'D GET LIKE THIS! rambling on in cyberspace at nearly 40,it cant be a mid life,I've already had one of those:p my son reckons I'm certifiable,he's not far wrong-I certainly feel like I'm losing my mind at times,perhaps its a split personality thing,theres the one the world sees and one i keep for me,in moments like this,I dont think its depression,more like a numbness that returns every now and again,sometimes i just dont give a ☺☺☺☺.

No offence meant Hatesink-youre a stand up dude!
