Right.. I will take goldproduction as an example but this also important to have in mind for your beakersproduktion.

I know many of you probably are thinking and know about these things but for you that don't this is important. I belive that alot of people find it hard to get a strong goldproduction fast. So this will help.

When and where to build Markets, banks, colossus, Trade Fair, HG and East India ?

East India is an priority. This simply because it helps both your gold and Beakersproduction. Though you mostly wil have to pay for this building (unless lucky with Great builder) and therefor you need alot of gold first.

I will answer 3 questions here.

1: Should I build 1 strong gold city, many smaller goldcities or both?

2: what and where and when should I build something?

3: When should I stop building and start saving if going for an ecowin?

1: I sugest both. but before building alot of markets you should focus on your goldcity. I will show later in this post why this is so. I always calculate before building something in turns when the building I rush will start generating gold and if its whorthy.

2: I have 500 gold. A bank cost me 480 to rush and my goldproduction is 60/turn (I have a market) This means this building is an 8. This because after 8 turns I have produced the 480 gold the building cost me to build. Now you say but after 3 turns this city will grow 1 pop. Yes and i have that in mind but I don't put it in my fast calculating but I do keep that in mind.

So building a bank will be an 8. Then I always look how much gold I will get extra 5 turns after this. The bank gives me + 60 gold/turn and 60 x 5 = 300.
So building a bank is an 8 + 300.

Then building a market in another city instead that have dye.. should I spend gold on this instead? well I calculate. This city is an city that make 25 gold/turn. whith a market 50/turn and the market costs 200 gold. 200/25 is also 8. But! 5x 25 is only 125. So market is 8 + 125. Well if the Market would have been a 6. Should I have build the market then instead of the bank? 7 x 25 = 175. So even if the market is a 6 after 13 turns I will still have made 125 gold more if I build the bank.

saving up for colossus or build a market in another city?

I have 200 gold and thinking of saving to colossu or rush a market. Colossus will cost me 1000 gold. My goldcity with a bank are now making 150 gold/turn.

My current total goldproduction is 200/turn. so it will take me 4 turns to save up for the Colossus. Colossus then doubles 150 to 300/turn in my goldcity. 1000/150=6,7 + 4 = 11 Colossus is 11. 150 x 5 = 750. So building an colossus will be 11 + 750.

Market I can rush right away whith my 200 gold and this city now produce 30 gold. 200/30=6,7 so 7. After 16 turns with the colossus I have made 750 gold.
so market was an 7 and after 16 turns with market I have made 9x30= 270 gold.

It will be a larger different with Trade Fair. So you can see here building up your megagoldcity will benefit you more in the longrun. Though you probably will benefit more from rushing East India company before you rush Trade Fair in your goldcity. Unless you have very few cities..

3: Lets say i go for an Ecowin. Then its easy. First take your current goldproduction/turn and count how many turns it will take before you have 20k. After that count what number the building are. if the building is an 9 and you will get 20 K after 7 turns don't build the building/market/bank.

This goes for other buildings like courthouses and harbours to. I very rarely build harbours because the 1-2 pop extra that they might give me in the longrun makes the buildings to a 25 or mayby a 30. Only place I build harbour might be in my megagoldcity. I mean if it takes 30 turns before I have earned the gold it costed me to rush the building thats not good. unless you are planning on playing a very looooong game. Corthouses can be far more valuble though. getting acces to maybe 2-3 more tiles right away and maybe 1 of those are dye. also courthouses costs less then harbours. HG is great in your megagoldcity. This because if your goldcity have a pop of 6 and you have a bank and colossus in it. Rushing hanging gardens in it and your extra pop 3 that you get will generate you around 150 + gold/turn and with Trade fair in it 300 more/turn. HG costs 1000 gold and if the extra 3 pop generates you 300 extra gold/turn then only after 3 turns it will start making yoiu money :)

An important thing here is also to try to get to the different ecomarks to as fast as possible. 500 gold for the free GP. 2000 gold for the + 1 pop. 5000 for aquaductas is nice but thats quite late and other things are way more important to stall buildings for saving for this bonus.
If I have like 1200 gold and can rush colossus I might save for a couple of turns if thasts what it takes to reach 2000 gold and then rush colossus...

Hmmm.. Alright all this sounds much simplier and not this confusing in my head when I'm playing. I now almost not have to think of this. I can see right away what iI should build and where I should build something so it benefits me most whithout even calculate it..
Both in short terms benefits and whats the best after like 15 turns..

*cheers* :D

Colossus expires at Invention though...do you really manage to put together 1200 gold early enough that invention is not right around the corner?

Edit: That's a good guide though...I thought about gold in the 'when's it pay off sense' but not in the + xxx...that's something to think about for the future.

I never hammer the colossus. I always rush it with gold. This is SP though (Deity) and GOTW (Deity) so in MP when playing others I guess colossus isn't something that is possible to build due to that others will make it expires before or right after one can rush it.

I don't have a problem figuring out what's best to improve gold production. My problem is figuring out the balance between gold and science. I think I always end up producing too much science, due to habit.
