Hi all

I got Civilization revolution as a christmas gift, and have played now I think 10-15 times.

But I need a litte help, when I play the other players always expanding faster than me, It takes me ages to build the temples in my cities. I have seen on this forum I never should put the manage works on balanced, is that why I always get a bad start ? And what should I put it on in the start ? And should I change it later ?

And in what order should I develop the technologies ?

Pottery/Ceremonoial Burial to build temples ?

What do you people do in the start ? a little mini guide would be nice from a player iwth some experience.

Just played you on one of my alias, i was the french and ran you over with tanks and cannons if i remember correctly. Regardless you should take a look at some of the strat guides posted on the forums.....heres the link, http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23378

Read a few of those and they should get you started on expanding / teching up faster.

I almost never have my cities on balanced. Learning to micromange your cities will make you a much better player. Like the first few turns for example, most people put workers on forests and produce 2-3 warriors, then set both to food and grow to three. this isn't always the case, but is done probably 90% of games played, some civs, like aztec, zulu, and chinese u probably wouldn't do this, but something similar.

as far as later in the game, custom managing your cities should be viewed on a long and short term basis. sometimes it's worth it to put all on food and grow you city before picking back up on your strategy, somtimes, if u have adequate buildings and defenses, it's best to set all to trade, other times, such as when you're building a wonder, you should set it to mostly production.

as far as expanding, u should try to create as many cities as you can defend. usually the player that expands the most effiencently and the most overall can gain the advantage, even if they are temporarily behind in tech or other areas.

as far as temples go, unless you're trying to prevent a flip, or building them for some tactical reason, you should probably forgo building them and build settlers, libraries, markets and offensive/defensive units instead.

I'd suggest playing some games on single player, not necessarly to finish them, just to figure out how to start, how to make it to modern era as fast as u can, how to pull of a successful rush in the early (warriors, horsemen, legions, catapults), middle (knights, cannons) and late (tanks, artillary, bombers) etc.

learning some of the specific strategies on these boards can really help teach u the building blocks for a successful strategy. I suggest learning a few of these strategies posted on the archive, and testing them out, and making your own changes to see what works for u.
