do you earn or find weapons?

i know that you start with the pistol, but are weapons like the shotgun and rocket launcher found, bought, earned, or none of the above?

You find all of the weapons. You start with the wrench, you find the pistol in the baby carrige of an insane splicer, in the first area. And you find the tommy gun in an observitory room in the medical pavilion.

well, i know some of the BDs have launcer type weapons, so i was thinking that maybe you jack one from them

If they are homemade, you would make them at the "U-invent" station, out of item that you found.
