View Full Version : *Spoilers* Being Big Daddy

I love the idea of becoming a Big Daddy at the end of the game but 2 things disturb me about it.
1. You have to become a BD to get trough a door? What kind of BS reason is that? The Player has blown up/ melted/ moved soo many obstacles during the game. And if he couldnt he just found a way around the blocked passage. But now the ONLY way to get through the door is becoming a BD? Thats just lame. They really could have come up with a better reason.
2. Basicly BigDaddys are guys in a suit who stink and have a strange voice.... . At least thats how the player becomes a BD. I really expected that the player would be stuck into some sort of machine and then be completely transformed into another lifeform. But no. All you need is stink and 25% armor protection. It also sucked that you still had your normal "human" hands. With all the plasmids and weapons and ☺☺☺☺. Just imagine a BD holding a pistol in his hand... Pathetic! WHERE IS THE DRILL?!?!?!
This leads to my final question: Is the player a real BD or just a fake BD? I only played the good ending so far.

Wasn't the real reason you had to become a big daddy was so you could get a little sister. After all she was able to open all the doors for you and lead you to where you were supposed to go. They were pretty massive doors i'm sure that they would have took precautions making sure they were pretty resistant so that none of the splicers would be able to get through to Atlas which is why you needed her to open them for you.

I'm guessing it takes alot of time and conditioning to properly become a big daddy plus you probably wouldn't retain your plasmids in the process. At least with the way we did it, it was reversable, I mean you shed all the big daddy stuff before the fight with atlas don't you? I'd be pretty annoyed if i lost all my plasmids i spent ages getting and just had a drill to fight atlas with. The big daddy suit and voice change was to convince the little sister that you were there to protect her and so she would show you where to go not that you would become more powerful.

Yep, you aren't sufficiently spliced up to be the real Daddy. I'm still disappointed that you didn't get gloves though.
I think if you actually did have to get strapped into that gurney in the Candidate Conversion area, you'd lose all motivation to kill Fontaine... you'd just want to walk around banging on vents and groaning...

That's what I was afraid of through the whole thing. Considering how Jack had been played by Atlas (Fontaine), I feared Tenenbaum had an ulterior motive. While I was searching for the pieces, I kept thinking it was a bad idea, and I kept expecting her to tell me I was now her slave or something. O_O

Same, I was actually disappointed when it didn't happen though. It made, imo, Tenebaum leave the moral grey zone and inch towards the white.

i was sort of disappointed by the whole big daddy transformation. for example, it sucked seeing jacks's normal hands in front of you. they could have at least given him big klunky gloves. other than that it was decent, but i think they should have included a special "big daddy exclusive" weapon, like a Rosie's rivet gun. i mean, you ARE a rosie so why cant you use their weapon? coulda been done better, but still my new favorite game. haha.

^ i mean the part when you become a big daddy could have been done a little better, not anything else in the game. this game is a masterpiece!

Well, you see the suit hanging without gloves or anything. It'd have been nice if you could have gotten a drill, but that would have raised more questions than it would have answered.

@Status 3ffect: That is exactly my point. The part where you become a BD could have been the climax, the peak of fun in the game if only they had invested a little more effort into it. At least we should have gotten the gloves.

I was kind of hoping for a trip into the outdoors in the big daddy suit - an underwater fight... would have been interesting. Having to go to a part of rapture that's not serviced by the bathys would have been a better excuse to suit up as a BD imo.
Actually turning into the BD for real would involve having your organs and skin bonded directly to the suit, according to suchong's log. A cost saving measure for that cheapskate, ryan.
mr. (would you) kindly

Why are you guys whining about not having gloves? How do you expect to use plamsids like Incinerate, and ElectroBolt with those gigantic hand armor? But the main thing that bugs me is how was Mr. Fontaine able to open up the wooden doors if only a Little Sister could open them?

It's good that you put a spoiler warning in the title, but I'd appreciate it, for at least future reference, that you don't put the spoiler, you're warning against, in the title. :p
But because it's vague.. I'm not gonna do anything [nothing against you, just mean editing your post type of thing] but next time, look out for these things.
Back on subject, I like it, but It gets sort of annoying after a few replays etc.
But not nearly as bad as some levels such as the Flood level in Halo 3. (Of course even that, once you figure out that you just need to take it slow, since there are no infinite spawns, that is even fun)

What are you talking about? This is the Big Daddy thread, this has nothing to do with Halo 3, and taking it slow. I think you're in the wrong thread.

haha! ^
anyway, yeah when you became a BD it would have been sick if you could have plowed through parts of rapture that jack couldnt have accessed.
but ill stop whining, because im confident there will be a Bioshock 2. :)
