Arcadia Screen Distortion

I'm not sure this even is a glitch of some sort., but my friend who has the game says it did not happen to him. However he is playing the PC version as opposed the 360 version which I have. The problem is this:

At the very end of the level before Arcadia, I saw a 'ghost' - which cuased my vision to become slightly blurred and distorted, as is supposed to happen. However this distortion effect did not stop for the rest of the level, and has continued to where I am now: halfway through Acradia.

I've had the effect last about a minute, but never that long. Try loading an earlier save, or letting yourself be killed.

Loading alternate saves didn't help; or if you mean a save from before it started happening, unfortunately I haven't kept one. I hadn't thought of letting myself die, I'll try that as soon as possible. I'm now in Fort Frolic and the effect still hasn't stopped - plusn now, my game keeps freezing every minute or so for about 30 seconds. Worse still, when I'm frozen, in-game time appears to continue. I'll be just about to dodge a fireball from a Houdini splicer or something, and freeze up. Then I'll come back to find the splicer's not only hit me with that attack, but stuffed several more in my face for good measure.

I'm starting to think there's something seriously wrong with my file. I'll try dying, but if that doesn't work, it looks like I might end up having to start my file again. Bioshock is a fantastic game, but I really think it could have been more thoroughly tested before its release. One person I know completed the game up to one of hte final parts, then traded it in out of frustation with the glitches. :(

It worked! Hallelujah!! That's been happening for weeks, and all I had to do was die - can't believe I didn't think of that. How thick am I? When I backtrack to other areas eg Arcadia it comes back but if I die again it goes away. Thanks so much!
