So I start up Bioshock / It's demo. I know from previous experience that it runs great, almost without hitches except for the occasional stutter, which is normal for my ☺☺☺☺ty system. However, after the plane crashes, starting with the moment Jack is in the water in the prerendered cutscene, this thick, multi-coloured margin appears along the bottom and the right edge of the screen, like so;

I have absolutely no idea how the f*ck this happened, or why it happened at all considering it was running great last time i had played it. I reinstalled all the drivers, and reinstalled Bioshock, and found that the problem persisted. This problem appears in no other game.
My PSU, however, is 30 watts below the recommended level to run my new card, though i have it on good authority that a well manufactured one such as mine can be easily pushed 50 watts above baseline for extended periods of time, so I am almost certain that that isn't what's at fault here.
I'm completely stumped at this point. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Specs. are as follows:

Intel Pentium 4 HT
1GB ram
ATI Radeon HD2600 XT - VERY latest 7.9 Drivers, Bioshock Hotfix failed to install properly so I reinstalled the 7.9 drivers again
Windows XP Professional S.P. 2

What res are you running the game in?

Also have you tried to download and install the latest DirectX update? if not it can be downloaded from the link below.

I'm running it on 1280 x 1024, and I do believe that my Direct X version may be up to date. I'm not too sure so I'll try it now.

Nope, DX is up to date. Also, any concerns over my PSU output? Does this problem sound similar to other cases of GPU throttling?

It could be the GPU not getting enough power from the PSU. This is the only thing i would suspect if all the drivers are upto date and the DirectX update is installed.

If the PC is not well ventalated it could be a heat issue. But that seems less likely.

Then truly, I am screwed. Not many fans will fit inside a Dell 9100 case.

Meh, i'll find a way.
