A few months ago I agreed with you. I'm not sure if anyone thinks so too but when I saw the game play trailer I realized the many possibilities that could be set in place. Yes it's daytime but that doesn't mean that there are buildings. Cellars, Dark rooms, basements, even alleys are all possibilities that can be set in place. The first time I ever watched the game play video and when I watched the part where the man preaching starts to change his eye colors and his voice becomes modified I got chills. As you can see there are many was to KEEP that chill that we all loved in Bioshock in our bodies.

I'm sure there will be moments of creepy/scary...just a different brand than the masked splicer Sander Cohen types in a dark leaky dysotopian hallway. In an interview Mr. Levine used the example of the bright lit hallways of The Overlook hotel in The Shining. It's suppose to be comfortable and inviting and a usually nice environment and seeing those two girls in the hallway is creepy/scary as all get out. Or the opening to Blue Velvet where there's a nice lawn yada yada yada and all of a sudden you see an ear (both great movies).

Also, there has already been the following that gives me the great 'disconcerting' feeling, such as:

-Charles/old Murder of Crows guy

-Saltonstall with the sickle and hammer

-lady brooming flaming building

-bonkers horde of people in bar chasing you making native american indian noises

-the handyman

-and what is so far 'most importantly' in my opinion..."him" (and I applaud whoever came up with the design for "him"....amazing)

I think the creepiness factor comes in with how open, colorful and bright Columbia is, while still being a dystopia. It's disturbing to see such beautiful scenery and then witness the carnage and destruction around.

I agree. Rapture was a decaying city so it was no big shocker when we saw the people, but with Columbia...we see a nice little town with "normal looking" people. We see nothing to hint that there is something wrong until Booker picks up the gun. ...and whats up with that guys eyes?

I think creepiness can be achieved with more than some creepy masks. Bioshock was well written and it's creepiness came from more deep things that the masks if you ask me.

The fear will come from the atmosphere and the story telling and I am confident that they will be able to pull that off.

Even more when you suffer from vertigo like me.

That's why I loved the gameplay demo.

How about the day and night cycles... I'm sure Columbia is a much more frightening place at night.

I dont think theres as much monster closet planned for columbia as there was for Rapture, that said the cyborg blokes are definately straddling the uncanny valley.

I forgot to say, didn't Levine say once that even if the game was in daylight, the team managed to do the scariest place in video games he had seen or something like that?

I don't remember very well the interview or even the link.

I loved Rapture and iI would absolutely return in that place, probably in bioshock 4,5,6,7. :)

I will never get tired to play this game. :)

I think at that point it'd get kinda redundant. If we're to ever go back to Rapture, I want the end to be the final destruction of the city. 3 parts is enough.

That's one of hte main things bioshock has been about: The view of a great and beautiful setting destroyed by the nature of humanity. That's why I love these games :D

So far from the trailer and gameplay videos, the scares seem much more subtle to me, rather than the in your face jump out shock horror. The atmosphere is very disconcerting in Columbia. I'd imagine we'll be more on edge, (undecided about what to fear) rather than in survival mode, like we were feeling 100% of the time in Rapture.

But as others have said, i'm sure the "Horror" will come in many forms when we play the final game. So I think we'll be feeling a broader set of fear emotions in BS: Infinite.

i hope that since we are not in rapture, limited to everywhere we can go, i am begging that we are willingly able to throw our selves off columbia and crash on the ground if we want to, i think the more freedom we have, the more fun it it.

I think I'd rather fight that Crow-man creature that protects Elizabeth instead of fighting that monster. Really, nothing can take down that beast easily.

"CHARLES! ATTEND!"

That scared the hell out of the me; The way Saltonstall (or Salton Stall)'s voice reverberated was just mollifying, and I really found the experience gave me the best kind of chills the first time around.

I agree, I was in my room with the lights out, and I have a 42 inch screen that has REALLY loud sound, and ofcourse it being Bioshock, I had it all the way up so I can hear every single sound. when he screamed with that reverberation, it sent chills down my spine, and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. terrifying!!

Politicians with transformable promotions, and eyes that glow? That and their heads moving violently without any discernible reason?

I HIGHLY doubt that that's how Rapture came into being...

Of course its not , but so many people are still trying to figure the connection between them (and still hope for a 3rd rapture game).

But with the 'tears' fantasy aspect of this game (at least the rapture scenarios had the pretense of pretending they were science fiction) anything is possible.
