View Full Version : How many game ideas come from forums ideas?

With all of the speculation that happens when, little by little, more information comes out about an upcoming game, I was wondering if game designers ever take ideas that people post on forums to integrate into a new game. Obviously, people who post to forums, especially ones that are more focus like this one, are very dedicated to a certain game, thus they might have some really great ideas because they have been able to really sit back and think about it as a fan.

I believe forums really serve the community that they are for, and this type of communication with developers serves to promote an open dialogue. We gamers, as consumers, can fully take in a story we are presented, whereas the producer, has been toiling over the story for years. Because they work on the story, it is no longer as fresh as it would be to us. The consumer, thusly, perceives the story a different way and can add fresh insight. Some of this insight the producer might have thought about during production, but it was cut.

I know when it comes to BioShock, I could rant all day about new ideas for future games, but I certainly won't bore anyone with that!

i play street fighter and i know for a fact that the production team is heavily influenced by fan input, not only from forums but from the tournament scene as well, for instance if a new street fighter game comes out the production team always has their favorite charachters from previous street fighter games they want to see in the future tilte but in the end most of the charachters that make the game are charachters that the fans like and would like to fight with

I don't know if you've come across all the threads but there is a similar thread that discusses this very topic:
