Of course a lot of us are waiting for this game and searching for fresh info about it, but there is someone who can tell an aproximate date of release.
If not, just make a guess....

Has it been stated that we would not see it at all in 2011? I personally was hoping for Fall 2011 considering how long the development cycle has been.

I'm still hoping we'll end up getting it in late 2011 rather than 2012.

Tuesday July 3rd 2012 -- You heard it here first -- So millions of Bioshock fans can spend the 4th of July on the City of Columbia instead of blowing off fingers and limbs lighting fireworks and doing silly things like spending holiday time BBQing with family members!!!

Most interviews across the board have been saying two years..AND they could release it on July 4th if they wanted, since most stores are still open (I know, I had to work on 4th of July for Gamestop...where only management get holiday pay).

We've said BioShock Infinite is scheduled for release in 2012. People claiming it's two years away specifically are guessing at a more specific time frame than we've given, but we've definitely said it's a 2012 game.

I think Independence Day 2012 is a perfect date for Bioshock Infinite. But let's see what IG will announce the release date. The game is two years away, but let's see what they got in store for us.

Even though July 4th would be a GREAT release date, I just wish it was closer :( The more I see things about infinite the more I just want it out already. Or a least a little demo to keep me sane XD

Alright, I am pretty flipping sure it's going to end up being Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012. Games always come out on Tuesdays (Monday night for midnighters like me) and this date just seems too perfect. It's a long ways off, but boy would it be awesome. A heck'ova wait may be just right.

Thinking from a business point of view. Let's take a step back to analysis this; there's a couple of factors why releasing BS:I on July 3rd, or 4th of 2012 is perfect. However, i'm having a second thought...
Number one...
--You want to release BS:I without further competition. Right? That's wouldn't be a wise profit making decision. With two years of planning and a little bit of PR with others publishers as to what games are to be releases. Plus an aggressive campaign. It would help alot in my opinion.
Number two...
--Wouldn't be more cost effective if releasing the game Fourth Quarter of the Fiscal year (ie Seasonal Holidays, plus more pupils are out of schools. Not only that, Game of the Year usually tends be later not before Summer.) IG, you may or may not think about releasing the game late of 2011. Late of 2012 is toooo much time, not good either.
I'm not a marketing major, that's just thought.

I agree that a July 3/4 2012 release date seems genius, but what if they end up finishing it in time for an early 2012 release date, like January or February? I can't imagine they'd sit on it for that long just for the clever release date. But if it worked out that would indeed be awesome. I can't imagine there would be other big name games coming out that week.

First, despite my earlier post/prediction of July 3rd 2012, I don't think they will hold a release to B:I just to make a July 3rd release date to go with the holiday, if its done and can get out for January/February it will come out then.
To get to your second point, the past few years major games have been coming out at all times during the year. The first Bioshock was released in August and won game of the year. Games like Mass Effect 2, God of War 3, Red Dead Redemption are all serious Game of the Year contenders and were released January, March, and May of this year. As Gamers have gotten older they have their own source of income and holiday release date is no longer a must for a game to sell well. I'd rather them not rush the game for a late 2011 release date, I want the polished masterpiece that they intend to make, to be released on their schedule, whenever that may happen.

Bioshock was and probably still is a favorite among casual and hardcore fans. It was quite an accomplishment. I agreed. BS was a different breed, a league of it own. My point is, the games came out begining or during the year may not hold interest much heading toward the later the year. For example: Darksiders Vs. Bayonetta, both were released when 2010 started. Looking back, it seem mighty far off now. Gamers certainly have an short attention span. They played it, and forget about it a few months. Beside i believes triple A titles seem to release around the Holidays. Launching BS:I later would seem a good idea.
IG had been working on this game for what? five years now after the original BS game which was back in 2007?. What's there to polish? how long did it took IG to make Bioshock 1?...
You're right, it's their game, it's their schedule.

Depends on who you ask. In the US, probably. I know I haven't forgotten about Bayonetta because I loved it, but that's just me (the weeaboo me). But the general populous of America, yeah, they most likely didn't care so much. Over in Japan though, HUGE. Darksiders lost out in both areas though, sadly. It was a pretty good game all-in-all, although I do believe Bayonetta was the better of the two.

You're right, it's their game, it's their schedule.
Even though B:I has been in development for a couple of years, that is misleading, Irrational has said in interviews it took several months for them to decide what to do, a large part of development was where to go with their next game. I looked at the Bioshock pitch in the "From the Vault" segment on this site and it was pitched in 2002, so it was 5 years from the time it was pitched. Keep in mind they have to build whole new engine, setting and story, its not as easy as going back to Rapture, its like building a new IP. I don't believe Irrational is one the biggest studios out there and you can look at Alan Wake (great game by the way) and how long that took to get out there. I think by saying 2012 they save themselves from delaying their game, which is probably more frustrating than a long wait, is thinking your going to have something and then a few months before, it gets pushed back. The more time to polish the game, fix game-breaking bugs, get the best frame-rate, and if they did decide to add a multi-player component make sure it gets knocked out of the park, the better.
Look at some of the games coming out early next year - Portal 2 -- Little Big Planet 2 (both delayed from this holiday season, and Gears of War 3. The holiday release norm is no longer -- I really think this game of year will probably come down to Mass Effect 2 (haven't played it, not into it) and Red Dead Redemption (great game) both released in the first part of the year. Bayonetta didn't sell that much, I don't think its the release window though, would it have done better released during the holidays right next too games like Modern Warfare 2 or Assassins Creed 2. Darksiders, a game which I need to get back too (played 3 hours of it, put it down to wait for them to patch a screen tearing issue, by the time they did Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, GOW 3 took my time away) while is a good game, I would not put it up there with some of GOTY candidates. You are right, Gamers do have a short attention span for games which are just good and below, great games on the other hand live years beyond their release date in the minds of gamers!!

@rCrab, competition. BS:I may face up with more formidable opponent. I on the other hand picked up Darksiders over Bayonetta game. ..very much Zelda like as they said it would be.
@felonious, if i remember right. Nobody wanted to goes toe-to- toe with the beast of a game like Modern Warfare 2 only Assassin's Creed 2 did pretty well against it. Ultimately the award went to Uncharted 2 for GotY. But yea, i can't counter much what you've said.

That may be, but if Irrational marked the date down early, I doubt others would be so cavalier as to set theirs up for competition. While the series does have a dedicated cult following, it is by no means a cult classic and can just about sell itself. If anything, it may get a game like Dante's Inferno set alongside it like BioShock 2 had, and I can remember how that went ('http://www.vgzero.com/showthread.php?tid=22980')...

Darksiders was pretty good, I'll admit. A little frustrating at times, but so was Bayonetta. I'm a big Zelda fan though, so I had fun with it. I still consider Bayonetta to be the better game, but that's just me.

It should be released when its finished and IG is happy with it 100% IMO. To many games now seem rushed and not truly finished. The Bioshock series seems to be one of the few gaming series thats above most and i would like to see it not rushed to meet a specific date ( even though im dying to play it :) ). Maybe im nutz who knows :)

I just hope it to release before 2012, I'm very apocalyptical and if this doesn't get out before 2012 it won't ever do.

All we've said so far is that the game is coming out in 2012. Beyond that, there have been no dates announced.
