I've been wondering the cause of the international incident and whats the reason behind it and narrowed it down to 3 likely possibilities.
1. An Unidentified Antagonist - Someone the likes of Fontaine who either built or took over Columbia after its launch to fulfill their own political ambitions / personal goals. Reasons for - Irrational has used this before in the first Bioshock , the xenophobia and propaganda would be explained, and someone/something is commanding the robot holding Elizabeth.
2. A parasite/Infection - Some sort of parasite or infection invaded and corrupted people on Columbia. Like adam twisted its users, a parasite would explain the mayhem on board Columbia. I think of the woman sweeping in front of her store while its on fire, someone in their right mind wouldn't be doing that so what is affecting her.
3. Elizabeth - Elizabeth might be the source of all the problems. She has powers and has been held prisoner for 15 years, what is the reason? She might be a source of power/disaster for both Columbia and is inhabitants. You do not play as Elizabeth that has been clearly stated. Morality is going to figure somehow in this game, what better way than to have to decide at the end whether to save or kill the person you were sent to rescue and through the game have become attached too.
Those are some of my ideas, I'm betting its a combination of all 3!! Anyone have any other ideas?
