Bioshock Infinite.

Excellent trailer, looks like you guys are taking it to a whole new level. I wonder if this was the original intention for Bioshock 2 before 2k took the project over?

I was wondering the same thing. I cannot wait to play this game. Now we just need to convince EA to remake the SS games so I can actually play them :)

Its a ☺☺☺☺ game... I am disappointed to see that you go further towards Bioshock instead of dealing with something else. For example, SWAT V or System Shock 3.

Hate EA games. If they were not morons and goons it could be the SS3. But still BI gonnabe the not bad game I think...

So, is this directly related to BioShock, like Ryan or Plasmids?

phillynavs3
08-12-2010, 03:03 PM
@ Freddy - SWAT V would be awesome, yes. However, although this has Bioshock in the name and will have a Bioshock feel to the gameplay and characters, what are the things that made that game so great? The story twist, the characters, and perhaps most importantly, the setting. With this new setting, I'm sure it will have a very distinct yet somewhat familiar feeling to the original. I can't wait. And since Irrational no longer owns the SS games (EA does), I think a Bioshock follow-up from the original's creators is the best possible scenario

@ Zelzer - I agree with you I am not a huge EA fan, but I've never played SS1 or 2 so right now they're my only hope. I need them to remake those for consoles lol because as of now I do not have a gaming PC

Its not a return to space like I was hoping for, but its still peaked my interest. Well if it’s still a single player game that is.

Also I’m guessing vertigo is going to be a pretty big theme in this one.

Ugh, the video won't load for me! I was hoping for a new IP but this seems better than a direct sequel. They were done with Rapture and wanted to move on to something else within the BioShock world, so I suppose that's fine by me.

The way I see it, Bioshock was one of the best games this gen. Bioshock 2 was good, but too familiar with the setting and all. But now the geniuses at Irrational are at the helm again, and with a new world to explore... plus it's a different time setting so who knows if plasmids are even around or if it's something new. Judging by the trailer, we might get to play DURING the fall of Columbia, rather than after, and it could be cool to see how things change as the game progresses

Shocked!!! It's Bioshock!!! I think I just had a nerd-gasm at work. Thank you Irrational!!! You have made this fan immensly happy. Consider any type of special edition pre-ordered over here!!!

When I get home, I'm gonna block out the world and dissect this trailer. Then we can all wildly speculate and slowly go insane waiting for release.

Very nice job this trailer Irrational. The graphics are such eye candy. When I saw the floating buildings, I was reminded of one of my favorite anime's: Castle in the Sky and Steamboy. Such a great concept. I can't wait to see some gameplay.

Bioshock Infinite FOR THE WIN :) :)

Congratulations are in order. Here, here!!

Hey, I just came over from the 2K Forums, and the question all of us want to know is this: is BioShock Infinite an actual addition to the cannon of BioShock or is it merely a spiritual successor?

It seems to me that it would make more sense for this to be a spiritual successor for a few reasons:

-It's set decades earlier. Ryan would not be a part of this city because he was still in Russia at that point, so the bloody king of Rapture is certainly out of the picture here.

-It is clearly some sort of American Colony, perhaps a test kept secret so if it failed no one would have to know about their failure. This contradicts Rapture's ideal of escaping the government.

-There is some sort of Plasmid-ish technology, as evidenced by Elizabeth pulling up the protagonist and all the roses out of the air. However, it can't use ADAM because there are no sea slugs, and there's no obvious deformations to the people who use this technology.

The only issue is the name. If this is, in fact, a spiritual successor why specifically call it BioShock? It'll be especially confusing to your average consumer if 2K Marin decides to go forward with BioShock 3.

Don't get me wrong, this game looks awesome, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. I just want to know what, if anything, we can expect regarding the story of Rapture. I'm totally on board with the idea of Columbia, but I do want to see a proper end to Rapture's story as well.

EDIT: Mr. Levine just answered my question:

http://irrationalgames.com/insider/announcement-from-ken-levine/ ('http://irrationalgames.com/insider/announcement-from-ken-levine/')

He calls it a sequel, but if you really pay attention to what he's saying it's really just, as I thought, a spiritual successor. It's taking the ideas that are core to BioShock and bringing them to a new setting and a whole new universe.

I like what I'm seeing so far with the game, but I'm a little annoyed with Levine right now. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but it seemed to me that Levine was saying, "well, the guys at Marin were a bunch of misguided idiots by going back to Rapture, so we're going to make a proper sequel to BioShock." To me it seems like the inclusion of BioShock in the title is a decision influenced by arrogance, more than by creativity.

This is wonderful!

2012 is too far away now :(

Well I'm impatient to watch the gameplay footage, I'm sure that I'll watch it many times, as Ken said it.

So be it. Some of us are completely done with 2K as a developer.

" BioShock is so much more than a story of a single place or a single time. We had so much more we wanted to say." This does not sound arrogant to me.

Well I thought Marin did an excellent job with Bio 2, and to me it seems like Irrational is kind of slapping them in the face with the title of BioShock Infinite.

To clarify, I think the game will be brilliant, and I'm all over the idea of a spiritual successor, it's just the name that bothers me for the reasons I've already mentioned. I'm probably just reading too much into it though.

as much as i ☺☺☺☺ing love the iron giant, your response to The Big Levine's obviously brilliant scheme annoys me.

Bioshock is his baby. It's at its home now, albeit differently dressed.

let it be at it's home.

Like I said, I'm probably reading too much into it, and now that I've watched some interviews with him describing it I get where he's coming from a little bit better. To him, BioShock is an idea that transcends stories, transcends locations, transcends times, so this is a spiritual successor to Rapture's BioShock, but in his mind it's just as much BioShock because it's coming from the same theoretical place.

I'm going to have to disagree on some level with him, because I think that BioShock is, in the minds of most people, tied to the story of Rapture and to call a game BioShock and divorce it from that story is jarring and potentially confusing. However, I'm obviously not the keeper of the franchise and I totally get where Levine is coming from so I'll just have to work on getting my mind wrapped around this new change.

I'm definitely excited for Infinite, but I'm also hoping that we'll see a third installment of Rapture's BioShock to finish off the story of that city.

I understand what you mean illusion. I don't mind either way, I'm just hoping that some of my friends will think that it's just another romp through rapture, because it will be so different and unique.

BioShock is also tied to the world of System Shock. And obviously both Bio and System shared very similar themes and gameplay mechanics.

I’m assuming from this point forward that BioShock is the name that all IG games that share similar elements / gameplay mechanics will come under from now on. So if IG made another futuristic System Shock type game, then it would actually be called BioShock: *Insert subtitle here*. There will be no true BioShock sequels from IG, because they need room to expand their ideas, and Sequels by their nature restrict that.

So I think the BioShock name will become very much like Final Fantasy. Which in my opinion is a good thing, because the devs get to keep gameplay mechanics between games and still give something fresh and new to us gamers.

Bioshock Infinite has been in the works for years now. No way this was kept a secret from 2K. The 2K logo is on the trailer. They have agreed to make this a franchise, and have a business plan for it. If I was the genius behind Bioshock, my next game would be...what I want, have Bioshock in the title, and be on my terms.

I hear where your coming from, but fear not. Plenty of time for details.

I'm so happy seeing Bioshock in the title, I just have to agree to disagree with ya on this one.

Just to note, the audio downloadable 1080p MP4 version of the trailer is out of sync with the video. Any chance on of the mods can note whoever uploaded it about this error so that it can get fixed, please?

Btw, just joined! Hope this game's better than Bioshock 2, that's all I can say!
