i hope they keep with the creepy 40's motif, thats what creeped me out in the first game. The fact that people didn't know enough about medicine and they performed weird things, is mind blowing.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will work wonders, his creepy style and understanding of his projects is excellent. Plus Gore Verbinski is producing.

Ken! Ken! Are you out there? Will we get a movie? Will you be involved? I know it is stalled right now, but I am hoping it will not be dead.

I hope it gives off the same nerve racking feeling that the game did.

Assuming it gets made one day, I hope that it doesn't try and copy the game exactly, I'd like it to try and recreate the atmosphere and feel of decay in it's own way. The fact that you can't explore a movie means that a straight copy-paste wouldn't work IMO. :p

I really hope they don't go PG-13, most movie adaptations go that route and just do a cheap view of the game and it feels fake. It has to be rated R.

I hope and wish for heavy involvement from Stan Winston Studio, but that's applicable for all movies.

You know, I'm probably not the first one thinking this, but I've been jaded by games that turn into movies. As much hope that I have for the Bioshock movie to turn out great, I still have my doubts. We'll just have have to wait and see the screen shots...

I'm actually glad Gore Verbinski wont be directing it. His films are usually quite epic and focus on delivering a scary style but end up being impressive and more comical, just look at his Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Where as Juan's films are actually scary, look at 28 Weeks later.

Awesome, I wasn't aware of a movie in the works. Hopefully it won't suck as most game to movie adaptations do.

I wasn't aware of a movie, either.
Checking IMDB.....
Apparently, this guy ('http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0294379/') is directing. Same guy who directed '28 Weeks Later'. Was that any good?

not as good as 28 Days Later, but I thought it was pretty good. I liked the expansion of the story line.

I say leave Bioshock alone...I'd go see the movie, but it could never beat the game.
Just my opinion

Let's see... this is just speculation, but if they were going to turn BioShock into a 2 1/2 to 3 hour movie, my guess is that they're going to change things, but that's obvious, so the question is what will they do? I'd say they'll keep true to most of the events of "Welcome to Rapture", shorten the Medical Pavillion section, and make it so Jack spends less time in Fort Frolic by having Sander Cohen trail him instead of Jack being his new "prodigy."
Beyond that, they would probably cut a lot of Arcadia out, maybe make it so all Jack does is go to the booth and hit some switch, or remove it entirely. The problem with trying to figure out what the studio would remove or splice (only a small pun intended) together to make the movie a manageable length. But now that I really think about it, a quality BioShock movie could run up to 3 1/2 hours and still be great.
Thoughts from anyone else?

I wuld want them to recreate their own retelling of bioshock but if they coud pull of the rapture art deco and the amazing twist without ruining the story,....it might be epic

That's actually a fact, but they didn't really cancel it, they just delayed it or something like that. I would love to see a Bioshock movie.

Depends on what the movie is about.
I'd want something that compliments the game's story not retelling it as a fancy play through.
Impossible to happen but my ideal movie would be the creation of Rapture through Ryan finding all the geniuses that he takes with him.
Seeing Ryan as he first started; with a single purpose and optimism to being his dream into reality.
The running time would be 3 hours and treated as if it was a period piece with the more fantastical elements being blended in as much as possible to retain the illusion. More of Neill Blomkamp's 'District 9' than Cameron's 'Avatar' in terms of grittiness.
The soundtrack would be period as well so the whole endeavor might come off as 'Citizen Kane' underwater.
This could be filmed independently with enough greenscreen work but hopefully with better integration of actors and scenery than in 'Sky Captian And The World Of Tomorrow'.
No idea on who to cast.
Some scenes I'd want to see;
Ryan burning down his forested land instead of giving it away.
The recruitment of SuChong, Tennebaum and the rest of Rapture's, at the point, sane geniuses.
His youth in Russia and gradual formation of his beliefs.
The beginnings of the civil war and enough of a suggestion that things won't turn out well but enough to complete the story yet leave the viewers awaiting the sequel.
Thanks for the thread, fenpsycho.

I could see the prequel being a good way to go.
Perhaps Rapture's already been built and the Big Daddy project is underway (you can't have a BS movie w/o the BD's. ;) ) Backstory points, such as Ryan's history, gathering of minds, etc would be told through flashbacks.
Maybe a reference is made to Jack's birth, but I'd not make a big deal about it.

Everyone check out the launch trailer for BioShock 2, it is done in the same style as the original launch trailer for BioShock 1, only much longer. It is simply BREATH TAKING. If they are still going to do a BioShock movie, PLEASE don't make it live action, instead make it completely in cgi like this. It's the only way I can see it doing the world of BioShock and Rapture any justice, regardless of storyline.

A few things If jacks in it will they have him harvest the sisters or rescue and if they have him yousing plasmids it's probley going to look like crap for some of the plasmids good but bad they went over on the budget so it should have good animation when it needs it and props thell probley make a big daddy on the inside like they did the inside of the alien queen on aliens vs preadetor so I have lots of hopes and some doubts.

I have the feeling that a Bioshock movie is completely unnecessary. A non-interactive media form can't come close to replicating what Bioshock did; that game was so powerful BECAUSE it was interactive. It was your choice to rescue or harvest, use plasmids in inventive ways, and utilize different ammo types. Not to mention that the story (particularly the main plot twist) could only have the impact that it did because it was happening to you. Sure, the movie might match the artistic style and have cool plasmid graphics, but it'll come nowhere near the masterpiece that the game was.

It has to be oozing with atmosphere and story to compare with the games. The idea of hearing and seeing the opening scene on the big screen almost gives me goosebumps though. I really hope it is cradled with care and love.

I got the first game just because it was listed as a horror but then i played it and finished it and my breathe was taken away all in all i can not wait for a movie, better be as scary as the game and i wouldnt mind the movie following the storyline. Honestly, when playing the game who thought atlas would turn out to be fontaine? "Would you kindly head to Ryan's office and kill the son of a ☺☺☺☺☺? "

My biggest concern about movie adaption.
I want new actors and actresses that we hasn't heard of, like Christoph Waltz who did an outstanding performance in Inglourious Basterds, him alone made the entire film wonderful to watch.
That'd make Bioshock more special rather than a cheap videogames adaption with big star, like the terrible Max Payne film whom I hasn't even seen let alone grace my eyes upon, you don't need to when you know it's rubbish, much like the remake of the Italian Jobs (which unfortuantely I have seen, but that was due to the peer pressure of Virgin Altantic who insist on having that showing in their flight).
Bioshock is the most unique games I've ever played on top of Half Life 2, I'd hate for it to be ruined by some hollywood flick with 'sexy' girl and well known star, lots of explosion and the like.

It will be difficult because, they have to make it for people who have and haven't played the game or else they are missing a huge market (thus low budget, less likely to be made)
Jack looks set to be in it, but they surely cannot just follow the Bioshock 1 game because we the game players will know the twist in the plot and those who haven't played the game will either hear about it from game players or may well work it out before the twist is revealed.
So it will be hard to base the game around this, and if they focus on Ryan building the city then all the discovery will be lost when jack gets to rapture (discovery that would still exist for game players watching the film i.e: seeing it on the big screen)
I'd assume Jack would save little sisters in the movie so I think it would be wise to input a new character who does the opposite (he can get strong, evil, and set up a show down with Jack)
This does run the risk of upsetting gamers as another person is installed into the story line.
As mentioned Plasmids..are going to be hard to get into the film without them looking cheesy .
I dont know, the idea of a Bioshock film excites me and I really do want to see one, it is going to be hard work however on all accounts

I would like them to use the movie medium to explore the underlying theams, keep it separate from the games enough that they flesh out more about what rapture was and how turned bad in more detail.

I hope its done well. I would hate to go thinking its going to be as cool as the game but see it and be like what was that? you know. It doesn't need to be a copy and paste movie from the game but it should be as close as possible.

I agree! Please no Kristen Stewart or Megan Fox. Lets see some new faces who can act! Because Rapture is under water I hope we will not see any explosions of any kind...it just would not make sense.

I want to see that movie. I don't care how badly it's done I WILL see that movie. I suspect it well be a good ending, if it plays through the Bioshock 1 timeline. Good endings are usually considered canon and are often what adaptations of the game use. And yes, pretty people don't exist in Rapture, so I really hope there won't be any in the movie.
