View Full Version : Buy Low, Sell High confusion

I'm not sure how to get the buy low sell high achievement. It says:

Double your money by selling a commodity card.

I tried the following:

Selling a commodity which exactly doubled my gold.
Selling a commodity which more than doubled my gold.
Selling a great person which exactly doubled my gold.
Selling a great person which more than doubled my gold.

Has anyone done this or have any ideas about what to do?

when you say "exactly" is it precisely twice the amount?

Yes. So I would have 128 gold, find a commodity that was selling for 128, sold the commodity and got no achievement.
Same with the great person.

Apologies to the game I joined and the chaos I tossed into the marketplace to accomplish that :P

Personally I would have thought it meant selling a commodity for more than twice what you paid for it. But I did that and did'nt get the achievement either.

also did you wait for about 5-15 secs?
for example you know what you get that economic gold mark? and there is like a lag kinda deal? and finally your civ wins the era..lol maybe that could be happening?

or than that not sure what to tell you

I just got it, NOT sure how. From what I can gather, looks like you need to double the money you invested in the commodity card, i.e buy at 100 sell at 200.

its in the name, how could we miss it hahah

Ah that would make sense. I'll try that when the server is up again.

I think I understand.

When you invest in a commodity, a number appears in the upper left hand corner for you. This is the number you "bought" it at. If you buy multiples the number changes. When you sell at twice that number, you get the achievement.

Thank you, I was wondering about this one, and now I understand how to get it.

So it has to be exactly twice. I was selling at more than twice...

Somewhat off-topic, but anyone have any thoughts on whether the 1000 mazes, 1000 wonders, and 10000 puzzle swaps are for a single game? I don't think I've come close to any of those ever. You'd have to run a really controlled game to be able to do those in a single setting, unless there is something I'm missing?

Probably doesn't have to be exact, that's a bit hard to hit. I'm guessing it only needs to be twice what your "bought" price is. Keep in mind if you buy mulitples, that number changes. That might have an effect on the achievement.

I'd guess they are long term achievements, I don't think you can build 1000 wonders on a single game, even rebuilding the same ones over and over. 1000 science mazes after the brilliant changes to science seem doable though

no, in the update thread they said that theirs new achievements not only for single games, but a period of games.. so that is what it probably meant

Voyage of Discovery can be your friend. If you have a boatload of science, you can get 100+ moves off one. Probably only counts moves you actually make, but getting those moves in the first place only helps to get you there.

It was approximately four times my bought price. I can't try with something closer to 2x at the moment as the game is down again.

I just confirmed I was able to get the achievement by buying a commodity, and then selling it for double the price.

My commodities were ones I'd bought before the update. Maybe they need to be both bought and sold after the update.

I was incorrect before, the "bought" price is in the upper right hand corner, in white. Upper left is how many you own. I just sold a commodity at 405 when my "bought" price was 202. No achievement.

I sold a commodity which I had bought before the patch and it didn't work. It worked once I bought one post-patch and then subsequently sold it.

Think I figured it out: The achievement reads, "Double your money by selling a commodity card". Could it mean you have X gold, and when you sell you commodity, that your personal gold doubles?

The wording is a bit vague on that.

random user

I'm pretty sure it just has to do with oddity from pre-patch. I initially read it as doubling your personal gold (as per the first post) but that didn't work.

Furiey

Confirmed, you must buy the commodity post patch then sell it at 2x or more what you paid for it.

A commodity bought pre-patch does not give the achievement.

Not really, I was selling commodities I bought before the patch and got it. I wasn't even going for the achievement, just selling some commodities to buy a GP.

Maybe I should say then:

A commodity bought pre-patch does not always give the achievement.

Only post patch ones worked for me.

Funny. I had no problems getting this. I bought a dozen marbles a few days back at an average of 108. Sold them just now as they were selling for 350, and got it.
