Wanted to start a thread to solicit ideas on combating cheats - users with multiple accounts and using them as 'trolls' etc.
I think the future must be more team based. And given the number of times I have seen individual idiots 'kill' a game, I advocate a voting option to vote a player OFF a civ or even a game.
I recently had a troll/s in our Civ that voted for battle while the 'real' players were offline (asleep actually and they knew this from the nation text) to hand victory&wonders to his 'twin' accounts in another Civ. Nice guy.
For those honest players amongst us, the annoyance is not that these people exist but that they waste your time. We developed and executed a fine strategy only for it to be undone by a cheat.
Can we give 2K some ideas on how to combat this before a good game dies a death from these 'got to win at all costs' sad individuals?

You seem to be under the misapprehension that 2K gives a crap... or that they ever read this or care what we think....

The truth of the matter is this issue and others have been discussed many times over the months and no changes have been implemented to discourage exploitation.

That's because 2K admitted they wanted selfish players, backstabbing is encouraged, and basically if you're working as a team, or even apparently if you're enjoying the game, then you're playing wrong.

And this is probably why every day more and more people quit playing, since a game is supposed to be fun, and apparently, that's not something 2K wants... although, anyone with a grade school education should be able to realize that driving off all their customers is the best way to go bankrupt and go out of business... so one really has to wonder who the f**k is in charge over there, and what did they do to Cid to keep him soooooooooo far out of the loop that he has no clue how bad things have become.

Yes. I am failing to see the point in playing CivWorld.
Shame. I've seen threads discussing the selfishness aspects. The recent battle changes encourage infiltration as in the original post. I hadn't realised folks have made recommendations for change and seen them ignored. Real shame as the franchise is spoiled now on FB.
So... what other FB games do folks recommend as a good alternative to CivWorld but which encourage more team play / discourage saboteurs and cheats?

Castle Age is pretty good. If you join a guild, that works like a team, or you can go it alone.

I don't have a problem with 'Back-stabbing'. Backstabbing is not an exploit. Exploit being the ability to use the game mechanic in a way that was never intended and circumvents the rules. Backstabbing was intended and therefore is not exploitation.
The op is pointing out specific instances where someone is using multiple accounts to gain an advantage.

I think the thoght process was that any game that encourages backstabbing encourages machiavelian tactics which include cheating.
That said. I don't think the game encourages backstabbing and, to the contrary, is very dependant on cooperation to succeed (or at least used to be) I think there is a little confusion between winning and backstabbing. Someone beating me in a competition to get a fame point or promotion is called playing the game.
For example, everyone who does 6 swap doubles switches to double doubles everytime the double swap competition pops up. Is that really worse than the person who only does double swaps when the competition comes up? Is that really worse than never doing double swaps at all? When does poor play transition into backstabbing?

Et tu FerreusBattuo?
At least now I know who to blame for all the cheaters in the world.

Well I prefer working with other players on small teams. I guess for me I don't care when someone pulls a fast one for their personal gain. For one thing, it unites the remaining players work even more closely together against a common foe. Secondly with some inginuity and coordination, you can typically prevent/recoup any loss inflicted by said backstabber. It is supremely satisfying to turn the tables on a potential backstabber and I quite enjoy it :)

I think that is the point. Cheaters and Backstabbers don't really spoil the game. A competition is inherently about overcoming challenges.
Cheaters, backstabbers, highly competitive players and Firaxis code changes included.

picture yourself as 2K games: It is in their best interest and the interest of facebook to let those people run rampant. The more those 'users' piss you off the more likely it is that you will buy the magical CIV Bucks to try to even out the game... get it?

I don't think I get that all. I'm pretty sure if you 'piss off' users by allowing people to cheat they will just leave. It's not likely anyone would be inclined to spend money if the cheaters can win for free. I believe the current state of affairs would confirm this.

If you have more than one person in your civ how did this happen? Did you have an unresolved vote for war left up with almost enough votes to tip it over?
This strategy of multi-accounts was easier back in the day of market contests promoting. They could easily take higher positions within the civ and vote for war with more power, or even propose the war easier. But now that they can't promote from the market contests this strategy takes more time and effort.
Now, if you have a decent team - you make sure all the promotions are out of reach for newbs to the civ - and you don't leave up votes for war (use political minister to vote no if the vote can't pass in time).
And finally - there is always closed borders. That's the only way I play when I play with my buds. ;)

Okay, maybe you haven't heard. Implying posters aren't as good as they think they are is my job. :(
