View Full Version : Puppet cities can build wonders?

Just detected in a coop multiplayer game: My (newly acquired) puppet city builds a WORLD WONDER??? What the heck is that? I cannot build the wonder in my regular city now... This was never possible in civ V IIRC. ...
Here is the "proof" screenshot: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198030505150/screenshot/540651079766636286
*loses faith in Firaxis patch QA*

maybe it was already in production when conquered?
either way... bonus for you!

This means it can't be built in another city and this puppet will not build anything else for a long time.

i guess... unless it was built soon after being conquered.
IMO puppet cities are kinda useless anyway - i always annex/buy Courthouse ASAP. More happiness, and the city becomes useful.

Is this really such a big deal? What was the wonder exactly? So long as it's in *one* of your cities, it helps you anyways.

well not really, as the puppet locks the wonder and you cannot built it yourself. especially if it is an important wonder like notre dame it can be really annoying. Obviously the puppet will never built it as it is on gold focus, so definitely if this is true it needs fixing rather than dismissal as something irrelevant..

What do you mean by "locks the wonder?" You don't get the +10 happiness from Notre Dame if a puppet builds it?

Thats exactly the point. I am "spreading" my wonders over several cities using GE's. I dont not want to build Notre Dame in my conquered city - it needs 300 turns to complete, any other nation will complete it far earlier... = no Notre Dame for me.
I don't want to be too offensive but I am just annoyed because its a "new" bug, incorporated with the latest patch and it ruins my/our current game.
I may avoid it by loading an older save (before conquering), but it still stays a nasty bug.

I mean that you are not allowed to build this in one of your other cities for as long as the puppet is building it. You get the message only one allowed in the world. Realistically speaking a puppet will never build any wonder being on gold focus, on the screenshot it needs 300 turns which means the AI will get there first so effectively the wonder is locked until the AI builds the wonder. If this is true it can be a serious bug and definitely very easy to get fixed

... on the screenshot it needs 100 turns ...
...its worse...300 turns...

Thanks for the explanation. I forgot that the game did this. For some reason I thought that you could attempt to build the same wonder in two cities, but doing so would cause one to be scrapped for gold once the first is completed. Actually I think that's how it probably should be....

No problem :)
Yeah, imagine if a national wonder gets locked by one of your puppets in this way e.g not being able to build the national college for 200+ turns. Of course you can annex but what if you didn't want to annex that city and get penalties in policy and golden age acquisitions. Just saying that this is not one of those things we should dismiss as another hate 2K post etc

We are quite capable of dismissing hate posts while finding their substance fundamentally accurate. But no, this one does not rate that treatment. It just could have been more constructive and less energetic.
Or, translated into the vernacular:
Thanks for identifying a bug, that will probably help. But cut your emo-flop hair and find some men's pants to wear.

Couldn't you just raze the puppet? Also, I fail to see what Firaxis patch QA has to do with this. And I have never seen this behavior. Just an oversight that affects a very small number of situations.

I've had this happen to me. Although, the puppet built Utopia Project. Only a few times, but that was a few patches ago. As for why it's happening now, is beyond me. Could have been just a random glitch.

Ok thanks to Arifex, I think he's just provided me with the siggy quote I've been looking for. Complete with attribution. :-)
