Problem: The games crashes when using/activating/hacking bots, wending machines and similar in-game objects.
This problem seems to affect users under Windows Vista 32-bit who are running Bioshock in true DX9 mode ("-dx9" in shortcut) as well as other users, especially those with a Geforce 8800GTS.
Solution: After a lot of research and testing I came up with a possible solution which atleast worked for me. It seems like two Vista patches are causing the problem and by removing them; solves the problem. These updates has nothing to do with bioshock and they aren't performance updates!
Try removing the following patches and see if it resolves you problem:
KB933360
KB939519

The crashes happen in XP also

Good, then this fix might work there aswell since one of the above patches is for both Vista and XP.

The KB933360 is also an August XP update for time zone changes.
It would be nice if this is the answer to all my problems <fingers crossed>

This seems to fix the problems I was having with machines at Fort Frolic under dx9, but in dx10 I still crash when I open a UI (machines etc - hacking unaffected.)

Khajiit, are you sure this has been a permanent fix in your case and not just that it didn't happen to crash when you tried it? Have you hacked many times since trying it?

Scratch that, I'm still having the same problems, and a couple of new ones to boot.
Think I'm just going to wait till the patch for my second playthrough :)

After deleting the updates it worked for me and I played the game for a couple of hours, then the game crashed again while hacking a bot. I then installed the update and then uninstalled it again and then it worked fine for a copule of hours more...really weird. Sorry guys if it didnt work for you :(

You're probably just seeing an intermittent problem that is actually unaffected by those updates.
