View Full Version : Default Control Layout Vs Your Preferred Layout

So we all know that with Tonics such as Slugger and Leg Up, you can find it difficult to keep moving as normal when charging your jump / weapon unless you change your control layout.
I've never been able to use either Tonic efficiently because I am too used to the default layout of my Xbox controller, but it is something I am looking to try out. Now what I want to know is, what layout do you guys use for your controllers and why? What other advantages are there to swapping around the button besides these 2 Tonics?

I always switch the crouch with ironsights because I hate accidentally getting into ironsights while in the middle of a shootout and dying, plus it's easier to use ironsights when I want to and never crouch, because crouching in the middle of fights is stupid, especially those that do it.
I also switch melee with weapon switch so it's easier to melee while shooting when I get close enough, and not get my hands stuck trying to go back to "Pew Pew".

I put melee for right trigger or right bumber for melee and have 'a' to jump when using leg-up. I also have sensitivity up to 100%.

all mine is usual i just swapped jump and action because thats what games usually have the jump button set to. if i can bother to get used to new control layout i may try to swap some around but right now its staying as it is

I also use A for jump and R3 is melee instead of aiming down sights.

I don't think I'm going to change the layout around too much because after some testing I realised it would take a while to get used to. :p I'm going to put jump as 'A' which seems logical, but I'm quite interested in changing 'R3' from Zoom to Melee. I guess its just down to personal preference really.

Not going to share your secrets then huh? :p I didn't consider the L3/R3 buttons when looking to change my layout, so I think that's what I'm going to do tomorrow. I tried R3 as switch weapon on accident when shuffling the buttons around, I got a lot of deaths during that match haha!

PhlyPinoy has a very unique setup. I said the same thing in another thread.

Xbox: LB=Jump, RB=Melee, Y=Swap weapons, X=Swap Plasmid. Controller sensitivity used to be set to 50, can't adjust to comfortably match PS3 since I am now used to it.
PS3: L1=Jump, R1=Melee, tirangle=swap weapons, Square=Swap plasmids. Controller sensitivity set to 70.
I also just cut a small superball in 3 and glued the round ends to the thumbsticks of one of my many xbox controllers, now it too is convex instead of concave, much more comfortable and efficient (and wonderful gripping), but it has made them a little taller :P

hhmmm... I must say this sounded like a very difficult configuration to work with, but... I'm actually starting to like it. After like 800 hours of using pretty much the default settings I was surprised how fast I'm re-training myself. The only thing that has been messing me up is having L3 as jump (my left stick is a bit worn), but my new controller will be charged when I get home so we'll see what happens...
Thanx Phly, it's players like you and Fishy that teach me new things all the time in a game where I thought I knew all the tricks by now. I'll expect a new revelation within the week, so... you may want to get started.

I've tried a similar loadout on my Xbox, using the Left Stick as jump and the Right Stick as melee. I'm still finding a layout that I enjoy, but it is confusing to get used to something new.

i somehow prefer the thumbsticks of 360. the outerness of the ps3 ones hurt my thumbs. it's just more comfortable.
but of course the button layout is just perfect and it's smaller. just that 1 detail i prefer better on xbox
