View Full Version : How does anybody have the patience to finish a game?

I have yet to finish a game in CIV V despite owning it since the day of release. The problem is for me is the immensely slow turns that start creeping up after about just 300 turns. At this point I'm waiting for about 30 seconds and increasing when pressing 'next turn'. And I have a pretty good computer..

So, I'd like to know how y'all endure this? I won't even start thinking how long some of you guys on marathon games must be waiting in the late game?
Why can't the developers fix this memory leak?

With what game speed and difficulty are you playing? With a quick game you're unlikely to go over three hundred rounds, and on an easier difficulty the AI is less likely to possess the resources to spawn a large number of units, thus reducing lag.

After the hotfix(19th.Jan) turns pass faster in my opinion :/

Standard speed, Prince difficulty on a huge earth map. Maybe it's the map-mod, or? I'm using this:

Playing on Prince difficulty, Standard game speed on a Huge earth map (mod). Might it be the map-mod causing the slowdowns? I'm using this one:

Playing on Prince diff. Standard game speed. Huge earth map (mod). Might it be the mod causing slowdowns? The map-mod is [TSL] Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack (v0.6)

I agree. The first 100 turns are very fast, but then it really deterioates, to the point where it's ridiculous waiting-time between turns..

Huge earth map (mod).....That size of map will slow the game down a lot in the more modern eras. Play a std sized map as you can't be getting "complete" satisfaction from the game as you have never finished one. Also the number of Civs, City States and the speed of your PC will influence how fast it will be between turns.

I have increased the minimum distance between cities, which reduces the amount which can be built, and that seems to help with reducing the wait time.

300 turns? Isn't the default length 250 turns?

I turned off the 'time' win possibility

30 second wait? You can't wait for 30 seconds? Is it just me or does that just seem like not a very long time?

Well, there's the problem. Playing on Huge map with time turned off. Try playing Large or Standard with time turned on.

Cheers.

Out of curiosity, what's your CPU?

30 seconds in the late-game isn't bad when you've got a rig like mine (2.1GHz Atom dual-core) but it shouldn't be doing that with, for example, a Core i7 (unless it's a laptop i7).

It's simple.... You play Small Map, keep timer on, all victory conditions, Quick turns and quell your impatience with a Vodka tonic or three
